MINE!!

Now I have to go and find some Mind Stealers as well as some of the other creatures that give you a duplicate card of your choice when you kick their ass.
Nice!!

Do you know which the other four creatures are?
I don't remember them all, but one of them is the red Elementalist, she's the one with a blue dress & red hair. Also possibly Sorcerer, Conjurer & Shapeshifter I think as well.

I used to know them all but I haven't played the game as much the last few years. All that is going to change now with Korath breathing new life into this awesome game. I'll be playing it more then ever now!

If anyone has lists handy of which creatures have which rewards/powers, it would be helpful. (If not, please don't go to the trouble of creating them; it would probably be easier working from the other end.)

Well I don't remember if this book I have lists all that but it is still a great resource even though it was written in 1996-97, and it was a how to book as well as a strategy guide too.

It's over 380 pages of info on what we call ManaLink today, which was just the regular MTG game & deck editor & of course on the adventure game called Shandalar. This was from the initial release of the computer game by MicroProse, before the Sealed Deck Tournament was later added into the subsequent releases.

I've attached some pics I took to show you some of what was covered in the book.

I'd really like to scan the book and get it digitized so we could have it as a PDF document.
Someone did it for the game manual years ago, but this book to the best of my knowledge, has never been done.

I will be moving in July, back to my home town after 30 years, so I won't have time now, but I will try to get it done sometime later in Summer or Fall.

BTW, Huggy, is this one of the books you talked about a number of years back when you & I were trying to find some of the early MTG books/magazines that were printed at the time?

I think this book needs to be preserved this way, so I'm going to figure out the best course of action to be able to break it down page by page so it can be scanned properly.

Here are a few images from the cover & the table of contents.

Not sure why some of the thumbnail images are sideways, but when you click on them they will display vertically.

Maybe not particularly handy (since it's spread out over four pages), but I list them all as I go through the critters in my decks overhaul thread.

They're split up into 'frequent advantage','frequent special reward' and 'special power' (only a few have special powers).

No, I was looking for a book that had some unique method of calculating deck strength. I can't remember the name or who wrote it, but we never found anyone with a copy and I never bought one used.

Ok, thanks for straightening that out as I wasn't sure if it was so.

Oh, BTW...

  • Get a -1/-1 counter
  • Milling effects (instead of just reusing the discard sound)
  • Planeswalker-comes-into-play (instead of the enchantment sound) (though there aren't any planeswalkers in the game yet)
  • Creature-token comes into play (instead of the normal summon sound)
  • 5-color land comes into play (instead of the Gem Bazaar sound)
  • "equipment-becomes-attached" (instead of reusing the Orcish Catapult sound as in Manalink)
and could also use ones for "player gains life" and perhaps "legendary permanent comes into play" (which will get played at the same time as the type-based sound).
Here are some quick proposals. Comments pointing out which of these sounds are horrible and unusable are more than welcome (so I can come up with new proposals for those).

(obv, this is all released under a "do whatever you want with it" license)

PS: the volume level of some of the sounds might require adjustments

Thank you thank you thank you. I only have a couple minutes right now, but I'll take a look (well, listen) tomorrow.

A big inconvenience with the bug tracker is that the autocard feature doesn't work and we can't see the card's text.

I agree, and it's one of the things I asked Goblin Hero about. Apparently the bugtracker here is held together with spit and bubblegum; it's an old forum mod that he's been trying to keep working himself. On the other hand, it's still easier for me to work with than e.g. the multi-subforum solution with Manalink, and I think that it's easier to work with from you guys' end than a separate bugtracker offsite that would require separate registration and so on. I'm not about to be too picky about details.

In the meantime, if you're using Firefox or a browser with similar functionality, "http://www.wizards.com/magic/autocard.asp?name=%S" makes for a handy accelerated bookmark. Bind it to "m", then you can just put "m zedruu the greathearted" in the location bar and automatically end up at http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=236499.

I made a bug report about Yew Spirit on the bug tracker but either it wasn't saved or was deleted I guess. It is not boosting according to it's power but it got +1/+1 or that happened when AI activated it and it was 4/4 at the time.

Hello everyone,
I'm sorry to disturb this way.

I'm surching since a long time for this old magic TCG version and I was very exiting when I find this forum. Even now I am :)

I tried to follow the explaiantion to install it on my computer, (windows7), following this post :
http://www.slightlymagic.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=76&t=2349
But when I'm trying to run the "MAGIC" application I get an error massagess who tells me that i miss the DECKDLL.DLL. So I don't know how can I install this game properly?
I've read the 30 page of your "Microprose Magic the Gathering 2010 Custom Installer ISO" and those 8 pages whitout understanding what is the problem...

I'm sorry but, as I'm french, I don't understand some of your computer's expression.
Therefore, I would like to know, if you can give me the good topic to follow all the set up I have to do?

Thank you in advance,
And congrats for the job you've done on this game.

Hope to read you soon, see ya.

Enark.

Hi Enark,

I also run windows 7, and all I had to do to make it work was to download the big zip file in the mediafire link in this post, extract it to c:\\program(x86), then just go directly in to the Program folder and run Shandalar.exe (which I made a shortcut to after I saw that it was working).

If you get it to work, you can go down to the end of that same post and download a few files that hold the most updated version.

I had the same error my first go. Ended up I unzipped/installed over something I should not have. I deleted and re-installed and it worked for me 2nd go.

I used:

1. Unzip then install Shandalar 2012
2. Unzip then install Manalink 3.0 then overwrite files in Shandalar 2012
3. Unzip, overwrite Shandalar 2012 with Manalink FR
4. Unzip, overwrite with broken fortress

I ran it again and worked without difficulty. Good luck!
