For Clarity's Sake

Hey everybody...

So... if I understand things correctly, the project to add new cards to Shandalar has been dismantled and all associated downloads have been removed from this forum. That's a shame, but as far as I can tell, there is nothing anyone can do about it, short of actually securing the rights to do so from WotC, I guess.

I understand that the is not supposed to be any sharing of those updates and downloads anyone of us might still have on our harddrives here as well, in order to protect the original developer of the mod from the repercussions he was threatened with.

What isn't so clear to me is the following and I'd really appreciate, if someone who knows could shed some light on this:

- Are we still allowed to discuss those version we have, ask for experiences other users might have with certain bugs, etc.?
- Are we allowed to talk about modding the game, e.g. in hopes that someone here might be able to get us started on fixing some of the bugs in the legacy versions of the mod by ourselves?
- What is the final version of Shandalar still available on the forum and how do we get it?

I don't think there is any problem with this. The forum is full with discussion about these old updates.

I don't believe there is any problem with this either as long as you don't share the updates. However I don't understand what you mean with "the legacy versions of the mod".

Since as you say we can't share Korath's patches the only available version in forum is the magic iso which has the original shandalar, so without any new cards and features.

Great. I will try and figure out the version I have and open a thread then.

Maybe that wasn't the appropriate choice of words. What I meant to say was "some version of Korath's work, but not the latest version before he quit", if that makes sense. It is a bit messy, of course, discussing bug fixes for bugs that have already been corrected in one of the later versions, but since we cannot share versions, there is no way around this.

So that means even this "2012" version is gone now?
That's a real shame. Having all the new cards is one thing, but I fully understand that it can be tricky using WotC's IP in that. The features, however, or just UI modifications of the Microprose game, I'm sure they would be far less "dangerous" to keep around, if Korath wanted to do.
Like, I have played what I believe to be the "final" version of his updates and also one from October 2016. The difference, although there has only been about 2 months of development between the two is massive, as the later version seems to...
... allow tournament-style mulligans
... give the AI incredibly strong decks
... disable the game-breaking nomads bazaar
... unfortunately have a number of buggy cards

It will be hard to play the older version, or even the original version, without proper mulligans and the other changes to the game mechanics.
