I'll look into the Fishliver Oil / Merfolk Assassin combination.chaz2k wrote:Hi,
I'm very impressed with the wonderful work you've done in keeping this great program alive. I installed it along with the magictg_2009_to_2011_patch patch. However, I did find a few cards that are not working correctly:
Merfolk Assasin :
1. Cast Fish Liver Oil on to a creature to give it Islandwalk.
2. Was unable to use the Merfolk Assasin's (no summoning sickness) ability to: Destroy target creature with Islandwalk.
Mox Diamond:
1. When attempting to cast this artifact, one is not given the chance to sacrifice a land to complete it's summoning, thereby it is placed in the player's graveyard.
I have windows 7 OS however page 22 doesnt seem to help at all. As to where its installed the it is as u have stated above and yes its only Shandalar that crashes I dont plan on using the other parts at all.Aswan jaguar wrote:Tiltraise what's your os?

1)If you have windows 7 did you look at page 22 of this post maybe that can help you.
2)Where did you install ISO?path is it c\magicTG,C\program files\magicTg?
Is it only Shandalar that crashes or duel,Gauntlet, too?
I think Aswan jaguar is referring to the post on disabling Windows 7 'Data Execution Prevention' for MTGlauncher.exe and Shandalar.exe.tiltraise wrote:I have windows 7 OS however page 22 doesnt seem to help at all. Go to My computer > Right click it and click Properties
At the left part of your window click > remote setttings
Click the Advanced Tab
Under Performance > Click Settings (the uppermost most button)
Now Click the Data Execution Prevention (DEP) tab
Select
o Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select
click add, and browse your MagicTG Folder(Game installation folder) and select MTGlauncher.exe
click add again then select Shandalar.exe
I tested this myself and shandalar should now work fine on your Windows 7 system
Thx for the response I did this step however it hasnt helped game is still crashing when I try to buy cards. Also quest in towns has missing sections of text..havnt tried a battle as yet so that could be a problem also.Sonic wrote:As far as I understand it, the DEP in Window 7 now regards some of the coding in old 16-bit programs as presenting a security threat, and will shut them down when the program makes certain system calls. So you need to stop the DEP checking these programs when they're run.
A great problem with the program has been the fact much of it was hard coded. So, although the installer says you can install the game anywhere, it has been found that is some cases installing it anywhere other than the default directory can cause problems, as the program insists on looking for its resource files in hard coded directories.tiltraise wrote:Thx for the response I did this step however it hasnt helped game is still crashing when I try to buy cards. I've checked, and found the Merfolk Assassin is at fault - but even after checking and modifying the csv values the card fails to work.chaz2k wrote:Merfolk Assasin :

That is where I have the game installed via default.Sonic wrote:If you're running Windows7 64 we usually advise people to install the game to ‘C:\Program Files (x86)\’ - you might try this if you haven't already
How would I go about doing this?Another trick that's know to work for missing text in the game, is to disable the 'Visual Themes' option.
Thx m8, disabling visual themes did help in regards the problem of missing text in quests however it didnt stop the game crashing when buying a card.Aswan jaguar wrote:About disabling the visual themes right click Magic application and in compatibility you can choose to disable visual themes,I hope this will solve the problem for you.
If that doesn't work have you tried already to make a fresh install?
