hey everyone. I've tried to do a search through this forum without any luck. Has anyone had luck running Shandalar from this specific MTG2010 ISO in a windowed mode?? I've played this game on and off since it came out in the 90s, but would rather have a windowed mode as switching to another program creates issues because of the resolution difference.

I've tried creating a windows shortcut and adding -w, -window, and -windowmode to the target with no success.
I am currently using Windows 7 for those interested.

Thank you for your time!

I'm afraid Windowed mode is more or less impossible for this distribution; the original executable simply wasn't made for it. There was a windowed mode being worked on by Korath in his mod (unfortunately this is no longer available) but it still didn't work quite right most of the time. There were, apparently, a lot of work that needed to be done in order to accomplish this.

What I've done to get it run in a window is use a Virtual Machine wrapper... run the Virtual Machine in a window, then run Shandalar from the VM. Works pretty well for the most part, the only thing you really need to do is figure out how to set up the VM correctly.

Hey there,

I'm not sure who's still on these forums, but I've been trying to get this installed on Windows 10. I can install and run it just fine, however, the videos are all skipped, and there are a lot of images and boxes that are skipped. For example, the last button on the left in green is just a black box, and the old "stuck" messages occurs, such as "Do you want to buy this card (Y/N)?"

I was thinking this had to do with Smiling Spectre's ACT fix, but those files are no longer available.

I found out I actually had the same problem 5 years ago in Windows 7, but no one found a solution:

viewtopic.php?f=76&t=8268 (Sorry I'm a new user and I can't post the full link)

I've seen youtubers run Shandalar with all of the animations and videos just fine using this installer on Windows 10, I'm not sure why it's not working for me. If anyone has any idea, that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

EDIT:

Okay I found fixes to two bugs.

The video issue was actually really easy. I only had to run compatibility for Windows XP.

The text was a little bit more tricky. Details can be found here: viewtopic.php?f=76&t=21481

The last issue though is that there still are a lot of screens being skipped. I don't get to see my next draw at the end of the duel, for example. If anyone knows a fix to this, that would be great. Thanks!

Hi guys,

I haven't played this game for 20 years and now that I have plenty of time to spend due to the current situation we are in I downloaded the game from this link:
(edit:because I'm new I'm not allowed to post off-sites URLs) It's from archive org.

I have a few questions:
-first the sealed deck competition doesn't work, I can build my deck but next the game doesn't start.
-I can't play online, but I don't know if other people still do...
-I also noticed that some cards have different arts, I'm not familiar with some of them (the more recent) because I stopped playing in the 90s. Is it possible to have only the old art?
-I noticed some arts also don't correspond to real cards, for example Visara the Dreadful'art is Homarid Spawning Bed.
Is it possible to change the art?
-Also is it possible to add cards that appear to be missing (Wall of Shadows for example)?

Thank you in advance for your answers.

Hi joseluiselblanco, you seem to have this version of the game.

You can use this version to play shandalar (the adventure/rpg part) of the game or install shandalar 2012 version which has better gui and some other features, not more cards though.

- If you want more cards and play other modes, solo duels, gauntlet, challenges,
sealed games (not working as it should but starts the duels), and other modes you then can download manalink3.0 latest update:
viewtopic.php?f=85&t=29422.
Certainly has the correct artwork. Wall of Shadows is in Manalink.3.0 but I haven't check if it works correctly. You can find more info on wiki on top of the page.

- online play maybe working with the version you have but you have to use hamachi and if you have a friend to play he has to have the exact same version of the game.

For art you can change the art which is in CardArtNew file in the version you have or CardArtManalink in the other versions. Follow same size pic ratio 288/232 and substitute the images you don't like they are .jpg on this or .png on later versions.
Not possible to add cards to your version.

Thanks a lot for your help.
Just one thing I didn't understand is how to make the sealed game work.
Thanks again.

edit: I've checked the newcardart file, and there are plenty of cards that are in there but not in the game.

I didn't check your version and sealed but I have advised you to download also another version the manalink3.0 one from the link in my post above and use that for sealed and every other mode except the rpg one.

Also if you install manalink3.0 you can check on this link:
viewtopic.php?f=56&t=10760&hilit=sealed#p121946
how to make better use of sealed.

Don't pay attention to that I guess Sonic put there all the card artwork available for manalink2.0 at the time to that file so it has more art than cards.

Is there any way to get the original versions of the game, without any mods? Just the main game and the 2 expansions? I played originally back then and would like to again with no mods.

Original Microprose
Spells of the Ancients
Duels of the Planeswalkers

Thanx for any help!

Have been hunting through the forum, and have not found an already posted answer to my problem... or if I did, I didn't see the connection, so my apologies.

I am attempting to install through the .iso on windows 10, but the installer crashes after the startup animation (whether I let it play out, or if I click to skip it)
Is there a way to get this to work on Windows 10?? Or do I have to turn to a VM to get it to work??? I have attempted to run the auto installer as admin and nothing changed.

I used to have both the original Shandalar (with expansions) and the "Modern" edition working on my old pc (Was also windows 10), but now my current PC cannot run anything but the 2012 revisited edition.
Would really prefer to be able to play with the expanded cards list (Slivers were a favorite)

If there is a method to get this working properly, would love to know, or a link to the just mentioned edition would be great! (have been searching the forums, but every available download I can find doesn't seem to be that particular game edition)

For me, the Autorun.exe would not work, even after changing compatibility settings. I had to go into the SETUP folder, change Compatibility (via Properties) on the "setup.exe" file to Win 98. Then, double-clicking setup.exe worked fine to get it installed.

hey i installed the game as told.
downloaded the miroprose magic the gathering 2010 iso, mounted the iso file and installed it.
it even runns absolutly fine.

since i'm not interested in playing online but playing shandalar only, i thought i give it a try.
sadly many cardimages was not the correct ones but newer versions. After that i decided to overwrite the "CardArtNew" files with the images from the "Fixed CardArtNew" folder. Now many cards are corrected but also other cards have absolutly random artworks of cards released much later (my Aladdin's Ring has the Ulasht, the Hate Seed artwork for example).

can somebody help me? all i need is a running shandalar using the original cards the game had back then using the original old school artworks. best case only cards from alpha to the dark and original artworks... thats everything i need.
would be great! thanks!
