Shandalar 2012 errors - Error writing map file

Hi! I'm trying to play shandalar!
I downloaded the shandalar 2012 file from: dropbox(dot)com/sh/52byyugzq0u6gcy/AAAdZ2G3TsTXOmTL8AQAn_Aea?dl=0
Which says it's Shandalar.exe ver. 12/07/2011 10:22 AM
Here are the issues I've run into:

When I click on the shandalar_launcher.cmd initially the cmd box appears and then instantly closes. I right clicked on it and ran it as administrator, which allowed it to install. But I continue to need to 'run as administartor' to get the launcher to appear.

Post install the first was an issue with MSVCP100.dll missing, which I resolved by installing the C++ libraries linked here: steamcommunity(dot)com /app/42960/discussions/0/358417008729165319/

After installing those libraries, I can run the game, but some more issues occur.
The facemaker doesn't work, but I understand that this might be a pre-existing issue.

While playing though I repeatedly get an error in shandalar, appearing on the top right of the screen, saying "Error writing map file" - which worries me
Then the game completely locks up when I enter a battle.
Also there doesn't seem to be any sound

Has anyone else experienced these issues? Is it possible this is related to me needing to run the cmd as administrator, but possibly some of the other files not sharing the same permissions?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

1) You should consider making a fresh install 2)and don't put shandalar on program files if you did before.

3) Read carefully topic in below link. It has some suggestions and installation procedure for your version and the person there fixed eventually an issue like yours among others.

4) If nothing of above works go for Microprose ISO installation which has less features and no UI improvements but less likely to cause issue.
