Troubleshooting a version of Shandalar, uhm, newer than 2012

I know this is a sensitive topic, so if deleted without notice I will absolutely understand.
I managed to find in my old stores of backups and flash drives a version of shandalar as described. However, Shandalar appears to attempt to load, then dumps me back to a desktop at 1024x768.
I am running win 10 build 18363 and neither compatibility mode nor run as admin seem to help.
Anything else I could try?
