editting the contents of /cardartnew

Postby flounder » 10 Dec 2010, 15:56

Is there a way to modify the cardart that Shandalar uses? For example, most cards have 2 or more pictures, but I want to eliminate all but 1 for each card (I have my reasons, mostly nostalgia for 3rd and 4th edition days). Is there an editor out there to allow me to do this?

As a work around I know I could overwrite the unwanted artwork file with its alternative, but there's like 2000 files in there, and they don't seem to be in any apparent order.

What did you guys use to add and change the artwork for manalink? Is that something anyone can do?

In the last update, we released an 'Original Card Art' alternative, which could be substituted for the 'Card Art Update' we normally release.

Unfortunately, Dozy (that would be me) forgot to include a needed file which specifies the correct number of images available to a card in the 'Original Card Art' installation - so it sometimes shows blank images in Shandalar.

If you download the current update: http://www.mediafire.com/?eulr5hztt8cvwuz

Follow the 'Original Card Art' installation instructions, and then drop the file (I left out of the update) in the link below into the MagicTG folder - this will return the game to displaying its original artwork.

I will be releasing a complete update later in the month with the corrected file included and a few artwork and bug fixes for both sets.

Edit: The links above no longer work - The 'Original Card Art' fix is now included in the latest update:

Was not expecting such a fast aand thorough reply to a question about a 15 year old game.

Looking forward to trying this out when I get home. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Okay, I tried it out last night...

It is perfect! Thanks so much. It's just how I remember all the old 4th edition cards.

Small bug, if you're interested - when Misra's Factories turn into assembly workers, they lose their cardart. I noticed it in several matches. The tiniest of bugs, but just in case you wanted to know...

I think a lot of people will really enjoy this mod.

That's one of the bugs I've 'finally' figured out a fix for in the next update.

But here's how you can solve it yourself:

1. Open the 'CardArtNew' folder, and find the file '0910.jpg'.

2. Make three copies of the file.

3. Then rename the copies to '0910A.jpg', '0910B.jpg' and '0910C.jpg'.

4. Start the game.

Lo and behold... No blank Artifact Worker card art.

:)

I'll be sure to do that. Right now sometimes you see the assembly worker, sometimes you don't.

It's funny how often stuff like this slips through. I'm trying to update my own website right now. Constant deletes and re ups...
