The Original MTG Rulebook!

When MTG 6th Edition was released, many of the core rules were changed from what had been since the days of Alpha/Beta, with those rules being solidified through 4th Edition.

With the posting of these puzzles being taken from that era, I thought it would be interesting for you to see a copy of the original Alpha/Beta rulebook that WotC posted at their site on Christmas Day, 2004. And who is featured on the cover of said rulebook? Well you'll see none other than my, uhmm, smiling, err...face? Yep, that's right, the original Bog Wraith, masterfully created by Jeff Menges! This card was the artwork that captured me & cemented my love for this game. It remains to this day, my favourite piece of art not only from the game, but of any creation done by an artist!

So here you go folks. A trip down memory lane for allot of us, and a cool look at the origins of the game for you players who are newer to the game.

Cool, I got in at Revised so I've never seen the Alpha/Beta rules.

I still have my old copy of the Pocket Players Guide from '94, at the time of the Revised edition. :D

Awesome Sonic! 8)

I have the same book, but mine is from Fourth Edition!
That book has always been one of my favourite MTG publications as the format & the way it was represented was very nice.

So you're familiar with the story in the book of one of the original game testers who used to flop a rubber snake onto the playing field, going 'SSSSsssSSSs', whenever he'd play a snake from his serpent deck?

I never had a serpent deck, but the story inspired my girlfriend of the time to make me this for whenever I played my Rack/Black Vise deck.

Is it possible to scan it and upload it somewhere? I'm very interested!

I'm very interested because I once had this book but it got lost during the years (and moving into another house).
