Magarena 1.66

Postby melvin » 27 Sep 2015, 14:02

This release improves the log and stack by turning references to
cards/permanents into interactive links. Putting the mouse over an link will
highlight the card/permanent. Clicking the link will show the full size card
image.

We plan to stop supporting Java SE 7 which has reached end of life on April
2015. Please upgrade to Java SE 8. An alert prompt will appear on the main
screen if are currently using Java SE 7.

Click here to download for Windows, Linux and MacOSX.

- card names in log/stack are now interactive, mouse over to highlight card
location or click to view full size image

- choose one of four styles for the log/stack messages

- replaced clunky two-click log/stack popup menu with single click icon bar

- restore last selected view (basic/advanced) when opening log file screen

- display alert at startup if current JRE is less than 1.8

- fixed the following bugs:
* libpng warning: iCCP: known incorrect sRGB profile (issue #439).
* target indicator should appear before before period instead of after it (issue #442)

- added the following cards:
Embermaw Hellion, Unholy Hunger

Nice, been waiting for the interactive stack for a long time.

Next I'd like to see Magarena packaged so that Java does not have to be installed. I know it makes the file larger, but Java is a security risk and the only time I ever need it is for games from this forum.

As another note, while BFZ (Battle for Zendikar) is included in this version, the images are not currently online - I'm monitoring this and will give a heads-up when they're released, along with a mini-update for the BFZ cards which are already supported, and with a reprint list for those who want more recent card images. (I'm personally thrilled that Rolling Thunder is back!)

I agree Huggy, but the fact is programs like Magarena, Forge, XMage & the app that lets you play boardgames against other people on the net, Vassal, all depend on Java which also allows the programs to run on multi platforms like Windows, Mac OS X & Linux.

I depend on Java to be able to run these and wish there was a better way, but for now & the foreseeable future, I think that this is the only way to be able to continue to have cross platform access to these type of games. :|

Hey Bogs let me clarify: It's possible to compile the program so that Java is self-contained within the app, therefore Java does not have to be installed system-wide as normal. The drawback is that it adds 15-20 MB to the installer IIRC. But: it eliminates version conflicts and the need to update etc. See https://docs.oracle.com/javase/8/docs/technotes/guides/deploy/self-contained-packaging.html

As much as I'd like it it's clear that we won't get away from Java due to its cross-platformness and the number of programs here that use it. But we shouldn't necessarily be forced to install Java on our systems. It's like Flash in that it's a security risk and frankly almost obsolete (except in this corner of the net). :)

The Battle for Zendikar card images can now be downloaded.

5 Lands which also appear as expeditions may still give an error - I've pushed an update for those files.
