Manalink Update 2014/02/18: Born of the Gods v2

Postby Korath » 15 Feb 2014, 20:30

This patch adds 289 290 new cards, primarily from the Born of the Gods expansion, with large minorities from Ice Age and the Time Spiral block; as well as an embarassingly long list of bug fixes. The raw git commit logs since CrIAv2 and BNG are attached.

This update includes work by:
  • Gargaroz. He's been a bit strapped for time since the last patch, but there's still no way this would've happened without him.
  • Sonic, Keeper of CSVs and Wrangler of Artwork.
  • Aswan jaguar, who kept annoying me with AI updates even as I was attempting to package the patch.
  • Stassy, for his tireless work updating AI values, and whom I managed to forget to thank for v1 because I'm a jerk.
  • All the folks over in the Bug Reports forum. You guys go above and beyond.

This update should install cleanly over any installation of version Portals to Theros or later.

If you are installing Manalink for the first time, I recommend, in this order:
  1. My Portals to Theros distribution, available here.
  2. Sarlack's HighRes Widescreen & Standard 4:3 Graphic mod, available here.
  3. This patch.
  4. The card artwork per Sonic's instructions below.

Special bonus! Report a previously-unknown bug from a card or mechanic that I've implemented or rewritten, or a bug I've claimed I've fixed but it's still there, and I'll program the card of your choice. (Within reason. Change-of-target effects like Deflection, mana with restricted usage like Food Chain, and most of the weirder stuff from the Unglued/Unhinged sets are off the table.) This is at least as much to keep me honest as to reward you guys, so don't be shy. (And check your messages. Fully a third of the folks I've offered cards to since BNGv1 haven't even read my pm asking for a card yet.)

Known bugs in this release, besides the still embarassingly-long list over in the Bug Reports forum:
  • The five BNG Archetypes don't consistently prevent "X gains flying" (or whatever ability they prevent) effects from happening. They do remove flying (or whatever) while they're in play. The way they should work is that the gain-flying effect never happens, and so if the Archetype leaves play afterward the creature should still not be flying.
  • Ephara, God of the Polis doesn't count creatures that come into play after it unless Ephara is in play and not a copy of something else when they do.
  • Karametra, God of Harvests probably triggers on creatures with bestow cast for their bestow cost.
  • Tromokratis doesn't work well at all with creatures that can only block depending on how other creatures are blocking, like Mogg Flunkies or Okk.
  • Creatures that say "This creature can't attack unless you [do something]", like Floodtide Serpent and Leviathan, still don't interact well with effects like Propaganda or with attacking planeswalkers.
This is the first patch I've posted. Please be nice when it becomes clear just how badly I screwed it up.

Over to Sonic, for the artwork update:
Important Card Art File Changes - YOU MUST READ THIS

As of the January 2014 patch the card art file naming convention has been changed. Due to this change if your currently installed ‘CardArtManalink’ folder and card artwork is older than the January 2014 patch release it will need to be replaced with those in the archives posted in the links further down this post - BEFORE installing this months card art update files.

CardArtManalink_Feb2014 – http://www.mediafire.com/download/vwf11 ... eb2014.zip

Unfortunately we are unable to source a full set of HQ artwork for Born of the Gods at present. Subsequently most of the new Born of the Gods card artwork included in the archive is currently LQ and will be updated as soon as the HQ card art becomes available.

Archive includes Basic Land card art update (590 images), new artwork for the Archenemy, Draft, EDH, Planechase, Random Singleton, and Handicap cards. Plus alternative artwork for:

Ancestral Recall
Bird (Token)
Boar (Token)
Cleric (Token)
Dragon (Token)
Elemental (Token) x2
Sin Collector
Soldier (Token) x2
Warleader’s Helix
Wasteland

Please Note: This card art update only contains the card artwork for the February 2014 Manalink 3.0 patch.

If you are downloading Manalink 3.0 for the first time, or your currently installed ‘CardArtManalink’ folder is older than the January 2014 release, please download and install the folder and files in the following archives:

‘2012_CardArtManalink.zip’ (Main Folder / Artwork) – http://www.mediafire.com/download/pnj15 ... nalink.zip
‘2012_2013_CardArtUpdates.zip’ (Compiled 2012/13 CardArt Updates) – http://www.mediafire.com/download/p1i5a ... pdates.zip
CardArtManalink_Jan2014 – http://www.mediafire.com/download/dsln1 ... an2014.zip

Delete your currently installed ‘CardArtManalink’ folder and replace it with the folder in the 2012_CardArtManalink archive. Then copy the artwork from the 2012_2013_CardArtUpdates, January and February archives into the newly installed ‘CardArtManalink’ folder.

Updated number of image files in the CardArtManalink folder: 12592

CardArtShandalar.zip (March 2012 release) – http://www.mediafire.com/?u6h5by3b9fbf8cf

If your current CardArtShandalar folder is older than the March 2012 release, please delete it before installing the one in the link above.
The folder for the March release contains images with corrected file names, copying the new files into an old CardArtShandalar folder will not overwrite the incorrectly named files.

Number of images image files in the CardArtShandalar folder: 1259

My first new bug noticed : after applying the patch, the basic land card Forest has lost its picture.
After playing a couple of AI duel i have not seen another card affected.

I rebooted after the patch and even redone the whole Manalink install, but still the Forest card is not displayed correctly.
Before patch it didn't had that problem

EDIT : my bad, i didn't used the february card update in my reinstallation, after doing so, the problem was still there, but i rebooted again and now the cards seem to display correctly.

So nice: I can't believe that this game has improved so much form its 1st edition, where we had to "land, Black Lotus : War Mammoth " because there was nothing better to use :)

The 'legendary enchantment creature' Gods (like Xenagos, God of Revels) don't show their power / toughness in the deckbuilder.

Would it be possible to add it to their text somehow, as was done with alternate side of the double-sided cards from the Ravnica block?

Thank you our beloved Developers & the supporting team that you continue to amaze us with the loads of work and ingenuity to overcome obstacles and give us a program we love to play.
I also want to thank Stassy that escaped Korath's attention that keeps evaluating and tuning the AI base value scores so AI can make better decisions.

First of all sorry for my english and thanks to all of you for the game.
I´ve a very strange problem and i try to llok for a solution here, and there without find it. Always I unrar, unzip o whatever program I use, always have the same problem: Manalinkeh.dll can´t copy to the program folder. Always i try i have the same error: your hard thisk is full, and I have more than 1,5 tb free!. I try to change the virtual disk in winrar but it not work. If i try to unrar (7zip, winace, winzip, winrar...) that archive to another place, first time it will be fine. But if you look for that archive to recoy to the program folder its disappear!. And without manalinkeh.dll cant play.
Any idea?
Thank you very very very much.

Two thoughts on that -
  1. If you've installed in your Program Files directory, you need to unzip (and indeed do anything else that changes files there) as an administrator, or the User Account Control misfeature of recent Windows versions will break things, usually with less obvious symptoms.
  2. An overenthusiastic virus scanner may be intercepting changes to all dll files. If it were properly designed, it would tell you when it did so, so you could do something about the source of the problem.

The attacking planeswalkers bug is severe enough that I'll be releasing another patch in a couple days. Currently aiming for Tuesday night, U.S. time.

Here is 2 test decks : one from non Theros and the others is Theros newly coded cards, also don't forget to update your PDA!

Special bonus! Report a previously-unknown bug from a card or mechanic that I've implemented or rewritten, and I'll program the card of your choice. (Within reason. Does that include recoded old mechanism/card? :P

If you mean, will I pay up if I recoded an old mechanism or card and there's a bug with it, then yes. If you mean, will I pay up by recoding an old mechanism or card of your choice, then yes, in principle; but we may not know a better way to code a card than the way it was done before, so it depends.
