Manalink Update 7/14: M10 + Facelift
by jatill » 14 Jul 2009, 15:40
Big update today, so read carefully before downloading.
The main thing to notice is that this release is giving old manalink a face lift. Several of the grubby old images are being replaced with new hot ones. Whether you want the new images or not, you'll need to download this art pack:
http://rapidshare.com/files/255736204/DuelartNew.rar
Copy the dualart folder to your dualart folder. If you prefer the original art, you're done. If you want the new art, copy the dualartnew folder to your dualart folder also. Either way, you'll need to choose one, or you'll have no art.
Credit for this major improvement goes to Mathusalem, who created the art, GMZombie for giving me a push in the right direction, and of course me, for doing the coding
---
That said, here's the normal update:
http://www.savefile.com/files/1997761
Cards Added (M10):
Captain of the Watch
Elite Vanguard
Veteran Armorsmith
Veteran Swordsmith
Honor of the Pure
Merfolk Sovereign
Goblin Chieftain
Cemetery Reaper
Elvish Archdruid
Bonus non-M10 card: Preeminent Captain
Bug Fixes:
Army of Allah works
Beacon of Immortality always works now
Allied Strategies - allow targeting
Cancel now listed as an Instant
Collective Restraint / Propaganda - Tax is cumulative
Eye of Nowhere is now Arcane (not that it does anything)
Merfolk Assassin - Can go back to killing those Islandwalkers
Upheaval now bounces Auras correctly
Overrun goes to Graveyard
Kitchen Finks will not persist a billion times
As you can see, I'm trying to tackle the bug list as hard as I can. I'll post another bug update Friday, and then I'm on vacation for a couple weeks. Enjoy!

I'll release the card pics shortly (they are a bitch to find and most f them will be low rez for the moment)
ha ! it's nice to see one's work come alive !
say Jatill, you tried the buttons and they didn't work either right ?
although what's strange is that the Wnbkbigcard and the Hands work although they are images upon other images.
(Oh and im glad to see how the hands look ..... it's quite unexpected, it looks...... unexpected, but it works )
Well a big thanks Jatill for unraveling this mystery.
say when you were fiddling with the images, did you see anything that could suggest the images location on the screen ? (some x and y values ) the reason i'm asking, is because as you know, I had done a little something for the front page of the game, and the way I had imagined it my buttons were not loacted exactly where the buttons are now. Mok had said that this was not a problem. but have you solved that mistery ? if not....wel I will rework on my layout.
EDIT : pics added

I do see things like that, but I don't really understand what's going on there.mathusalem wrote:say when you were fiddling with the images, did you see anything that could suggest the images location on the screen ? hmmmm... I won't have time to do much more today but what I could do is open the front page in Flash or Fireworks. Put the present buttons in their place, and check the x and y value of their location. Then we can compare with what you see.
normaly the x y value should be one of the corners i.e. : the upper left corner of the object.
so if we can determine what and where are the present values we could be able to move stuff around

Heh, seems you're a soldier fan today Glad to see the new cards as always, and also glad to see that Finks should work now, since I really like that card. Also good to see that Collective Restraint is cumulative now; I remember being puzzled that it wasn't when I played two of them, but thought maybe it was another of those stupid new rules or something to do with the 'domain' keyword. I didn't know propaganda had the same issue, since I never used it.
There was one card I saw somewhere (I forgot the name) that is a 2/3 white flyer costing 3W and has the test of propaganda as an ability. Any chance we might get that? It looked like a great card! It should be simple to code given you just cut/paste propaganda onto it

First of all I want to thank you for your nice work!
But I have a few things I can´t get to work.
I can´t see some of the new images in the game, I always see the old ones:
- WINBK_attack
- Winbk_Startduel
- Winbk_Startduel2
- WINBK_StartDuelButtonDepressed
- WINBK_startduelbuttonDisabled
- WINBK_StartDuelButtonNormal
- WINBK_Telluser
We need new images for the following files:
- LIFE_BLACKpatt
- LIFE_BLUEpatt
- LIFE_GREENpatt
- LIFE_liched
- LIFE_REDpatt
- LIFE_WHITEpatt
- TERR_BLACKPATT
- TERR_BLUEPATT
- TERR_GREENPATT
- TERR_REDPATT
- TERR_WHITEpatt
- WINBK_Ante
- WINBK_AnteLabel
- WINBK_Attackbones
- WINBK_AttackMin
- WINBK_AttackShield
- WINBK_AttackSword
- WINBK_ChangeText
- Winbk_Phasecombat
- Winbk_Phasecombatstriphighlights
- WINBK_QuestMana
- WINBK_QuestManaSelection
- WINBK_QuestN
- WINBK_spellchain
- WINBK_Spellmin
- WINBK_SpellMushrooms
But I have a few things I can´t get to work.

Woohoo, thanks again for all your hard work. It looks great!
EDIT: just a minor niggle: sometimes the opponent's battlefield (ugh, first time I've used that term) is straight black, is this deliberate or a missing picture? It just seems out of place with everything else. Also, the AI life total seems to get replaced by a picture of a card in play. All in all, still looks spectacular though! OK, I'm off to work Would love to play around with it a bit more now!
EDIT 2: The screen after a duel that shows the next card you and your opponent would have drawn always shows Cockatrice for you and Wall of Stone for your opponent. It also has some weird text where it used to be the AI bitching about losing

I just really want to say thanks Jatill. this is awesome. Im happy to get some credit but at the same it it was you who kinda pushed me. when you found the original subroutine it got my brain thinking and then i was able to find that subroutine for the bmps. Thanks again and it looks great.
Now if we can just figure out how to redo the buttons for the main page we could use Maths new art for that as well.

Fantastic!
Two weird things:
1. It always crashes on exit
2. I have a file just called 'filtered'. this prevents me from copying in the folder called 'filtered'. Should I even have a file called 'filtered'?

The filtered directory behaves the same for me as for scythe000. It doesn't seem to cause any harm; I have no idea what it's for, though.

I read somewhere on these forums to delete the 'filtered' file. Not sure how much difference it makes anyway.

great work guys! I too am experiencing the opponent playfield being black, and the next card drawn at the end of the duel always being wall of stone and cockatrice. can't wait for the rest of the art to be done though! what is done looks great.
am I right to think that any .bmp named and sized correctly would be loaded now? meaning we could make our own skins?
EDIT: I too am seeing some old art instead of the new stuff. I tried removing the corresponding .pic files to force the new .bmp files to load but then all I get is black areas.
