Manalink update 10 April 2012 aka Sensei of Vanilla Masques

Postby Gargaroz » 10 Apr 2012, 12:59

New month, new patch ! This time too is a result of a collaborative work : your heroes this time are Sonic, Orion and Jatill. So, be sure to thank them too !

In details :
@ My treat for April are the best cards from Mercadian Masques, plus some other stuff.
@ Sonic did most of the CSV editing, we owe him a lot guys, be sure to offer him a drink :)
@ Orion selected and inserted a great selection of "vanilla" creatures, which will be very helpful for you tribe decks.
@ Jatill is back with a great selection of useful & funny cards (Chaos Orb ! Jack-in-the-Mox !) which he coded.

However, there are some bad news too : in order to avoid switching slots every time we add a new expansion, we restructured the CSV in order for it follow the actual time line in which the Basic Sets and Expansion were released. So, this time too the slots for the latest expansion are switched and you've to carefully check your deck before reporting bugs. This will be the last time we do such a thing, I promise you. in the meantime, you could use the great Playdeck Analizer did by Cirith Ungol to fix your deck.

Ok, here's the link : V2 - http://www.mediafire.com/?qfvbxufivphdo87

And then, a link and some words from Sonic :

Postby 0rion79 » 10 Apr 2012, 13:31

Gargaroz, thanks a lot.
Let me add some more words about my contribute.
First of all, it is the top that I can do, since I'm not a true coder.
As you can see, my cards are almost all vanilla (no abilities) or with static easy-to-code abilities, selected among the best uncoded cards from our current database.
Since space is no longer a trouble for us now, I had the following purposes:
1 - enhance tribe decks
2 - rebalance the sealed game with decent fillers
3 - satisfy nostalgic players, as I.

That's why I've taken the hassle to activate some epic oax as Kjeldoran Skycaptain or Scaled Wurm ("they embodied the worst of the Ice Age." LOL!) and some plainswalkers... and I mean creatures with plainswalk ability, which is quite uncommon :)
Last but not least, there are a bunch of creatures with protection from artifact, from blue or from green which were so rare in previous releases.
Also, I've found very few cards coded before the 2K limits that were left out with no apparent reason.
Even if I know that this release is really not comparable to contributes from Gargaroz or Jatill, still hope that you will have some fun with it.

In order to preempt any questions relating to the set reordering in the Manalink.csv file, I thought I’d add an explanation and the thinking behind the decision.

Some of you might remember, when the Manalink 2.0 12000+ card csv file was originally created we’d initially run under the assumption that the card slots would have to remain fixed, and had therefore decided to create the file using a ‘master order’ to simplify the card coding. However, when Mok (of whom we are not worthy) adapted the csv into what then became the Manalink 3.0 xls file, he also modified the updating process to allow the card slots ID numbers to be updated at will.

After the March (Dark Ascension) release it became fairly obvious that if we kept the current Manalink.csv slot order it would result in some of the sets, most notably M10, M11, M12 and Commander, having their slot ID numbers shifted whenever we added new sets. This would require the playdeck files and draft coding needing updating on a fairly regular basis.
So too make life easier for everybody we decided to rearrange the set slot blocks after slot 1747 (the start of the C coded cards) in order of release – the same order as the ‘New Rarity’ columns. This will now allow us to add new set blocks immediately after the last released set, before the token entries.
We’ve also shifted the ‘Promo’ column from the end of the New Rarity columns to before the 'Limited Edition Alpha' column. Purely as this a special set of entries which isn't part of the release order.
Finally, new columns for ‘Avacyn Restored’, ‘Planechase 2012’, ‘Magic 2013’ and ‘From the Vault: Realms’ have been added.

Whilst we realized this was going to cause some pretty dramatic card ID number shifting in this release. Hopefully, as Gargaroz said, the result will be that the new card ID numbers will remain fairly static from now on. Unless (like with Clone in the last release) a new slot is required in a set block to account for some unforeseen coding problem.
Working On: Life, the Universe, and Everything.

Gargaroz, I can't update my cards with Playdeck Analyzer: I get them all wrong. Is it possible that, while merging several contributes together, you have included a wrong manalink.csv file with your patch?

Orion79, do you use Playdeck Analyzer V0.2 (its thread is updated at 1st post)?
I got my Playdeck folder correctly done but some decks already lost in translation that were originally messed up in v0.1...

Are you sure you copied again all the dck files into the ML playdeck folder?
Please attach your playdeck to be updated so we can have a look (or the log file)

Orion, the PDA checks cards.dat, not the CSV files.

Err, are you sure about the card.dat?

Because from the readme

The PlayDeck Analyser is a small app that attempts to correct
Manalink PlayDeck.dck files by comparing them to a specific
Manalink.csv. If the CardName in the PlayDeck doesn't match the
CardID# in the .csv, then the entire .csv is searched for a
matching CardName and the CardID# in the PlayDeck is corrected. If
the CardName is not found in the .csv, then the CardName in the
PlayDeck is changed to match the CardID# in the .csv
Image

Unless we are not talking about the same thing (PlayDeckAnalyzer, right?), the PDA use csv file, not dat file, which is useful because you can use old csv for others ML versions.
