[still bugged]EDH still buggish after February patch
by 0rion79 » 18 Feb 2014, 08:47
the EDH mode contains the following bugs:
1 - whenever a commander/general is exiled from the game, each player plays it back without any penalty to its casting cost, while it should cost 2 more colorless mana for each time it has been exiled.
2 - the EDH mulligan is working weird. Now, when the player has the chance to mulligan, he now exiles each chard that he dislikes rather than re-shuffling the unwanted cards in the deck. Right before the patch, instead, it was possible to shuffle in the library the unwanted cards with a ratio 1:1 for the first time; 2:1 for the second time (re-shuffle 2 cards to get a new one) and so on.

Yes, that's all true.
Plus, whenever AI's commander gets countered, the AI puts him/her into the graveyard.

2 is what the rules say to do.
Previous report on 1? Seems very unlikely to be new when nothing related has been touched.

Previous report here.
Also:
Also:
903.8. The Commander variant uses an alternate mulligan rule. Each time a player takes a mulligan, rather than shuffling his or her entire hand of cards into his or her library, that player exiles any number of cards from his or her hand face down. Then the player draws a number of cards equal to one less than the number of cards he or she exiled this way. That player may look at all cards exiled this way while taking mulligans. Once a player keeps an opening hand, that player shuffles all cards he or she exiled this way into his or her library.

Urgh, would've sworn they did shuffle back in. OK, will fix.

Last time I checked, both players' commanders where put into the graveyard without having the option to return them to the command zone when being countered.takijeden wrote:Yes, that's all true.

Haven't had one countered in the BotG release yet, so I'm unsure if that has already been tackled.

No work's been done on countered generals so far as I know, no.
Tacking new bugs into an existing bug report is an excellent way to get them to be completely overlooked, by the way. Same as reporting multiple unrelated bugs in the same post, but more so.

Mulligan bug fixed in 91982b1. Recasting general cost is a duplicate; posting it again after each patch won't get it fixed any faster. (I'll try to investigate before v2 tonight, though.)
Counterspelled commanders is still open. To save me the trouble of grovelling through the rules - I don't play Commander, and I think Gargaroz has said he doesn't easier - are commanders supposed to go to the command zone whenever they leave the battlefield/stack for any reason (like how unearthed or flashbacked cards are supposed to go to exile), or just if they go to graveyard?

Commanders are supposed to optionally go to the command zone when they're put into their respective owners' graveyards from anywhere (owner may choose whether he/she wants to put it into graveyard or return it to the command zone.) That includes being discarded from hand or being countered (exception: Spell Crumple, Hinder).Korath wrote:are commanders supposed to go to the command zone whenever they leave the battlefield/stack for any reason (like how unearthed or flashbacked cards are supposed to go to exile), or just if they go to graveyard?
When a commander is exiled via Swords to Plowshares etc or Mindbreak Trap / Dissipate, it automatically goes to the command zone.
When a commander is bounced via Unsummon etc, it is returned to hand as any other creature would.
When a commander is shuffled into its owner's library from the battlefield (Chaos Warp, Oblation) or is put on the bottom of its owner's library from the battlefield (Condemn etc,) it is handled like any other creature would, means no command zone in either case.
tl;dr: Exiling -> command zone; graveyard from anywhere -> owner chooses graveyard or command zone; bounce -> no command zone; shuffled in/put on bottom -> no command zone.

Hrm; that makes it harder. No chance of it making the v2 patch tonight.
Do they currently get handled correctly if milled? Pull from Eternity 'd? I imagine if they didn't work right when discarded or destroyed/sacrificed there'd have been an earlier and louder uproar.

Both milling and discarding them are fringe scenarios, but I just tried and there's no option to return the commander to its zone in either case. Pull from Eternity can't be tested (and wouldn't make much sense) as the commanders go to the command zone as soon as they're exiled and it seems that zone is isolated from the regular RFG zone - just like it should. Destroying/sacrificing has always worked fine.

In Apr14, they are still put into graveyard when countered. Haven't checked for discard/mill, but assume you haven't found the time to look into either of the three?Korath wrote:Counterspelled commanders is still open.

I think this is a new bug for the April patch, haven't seen it in any previous one.
I made some new EDH decks after patch (still occurs with older decks) - my decks all contain 105 cards and AI detects them as EDH decks, however I can cast my general from its zone, but I can also draw it from my library. I think all 5 copies are now in the library somehow.

Yes, it was introduced with the Apr14 patch, but has been reported before. Take a look at this report and you'll see that the devs had been notified and fixed it for the new patch (which is out NOW in case you haven't noticed yet).

Ah, OK, I only found this thread. Good to know they fixed it in the Journey into Nyx patch
