Themes

Postby Huggybaby » 16 Mar 2011, 19:10

ubeefx asked for themes, so I'm trying to make one. I have lots of questions though and I don't want to hammer the feature requests thread, so I made a topic.

My first question: I want to replace the dragon in the photo gadget with something theme specific. The best way to do that is making it so an images folder inside the theme folder overrides the magarena/images folder. Is this possible?

Second: the wiki says you can dump your whole photo collection inside the images folder. What happens if you do that?

Cool! :D

To be able to override the images folder in the photo gadget, it must be empty or missing.
Easy way to do that without deleting is renaming it to for instance images2.
When that is the case, you can do the same thing as I did in the moon theme.
There the Magarena logo is shown in the photo gadget.

When there are multiple photos in the images folder, preferably landscape orientation,
then for each game a random one is picked to show in the photo gadget.

* I would like to have an images folder inside my theme, with multiple images in that. Is it possible?

* There is a white line around the stack box. Is there a way to theme that?

This theming is addictive. I will only do one, but it will be different from anything out there I promise. I almost couldn't sleep last night as I thought of minor details. One question has confronted MTG themers forever: what can you use besides a tombstone or a cross to represent a graveyard? lol

I think a great idea would be a pyramid, pharaohs graveyard, for kings!or a mausoleum or a native American graveyard but it wouldn't be recognizable for most people.

Indeed, and when you have 32x32 pixels or less, things get tough. I do have a solution for my current theme that I think is a little bit original.

* Is there a way to change the color of the target on the stack? I can't find an option for that.

* Arrgh, I can't figure out how texture_hand works! Should it be some specific size? There's no info in the wiki on it. I'm trying to fit something specific there and I can't see the whole image whether it's stretched or tiled. I'm working at 1024x768.

I look forward to see your theme. :)

About the images folder inside the theme.
For release 1.8 you can distribute the images as a separate zip.
And you can put one of them inside the theme as default for when there are no images.

Everything not mentioned on the Wiki page cannot be changed yet.
But it would be possible to add more tweaking options in later releases.
Maybe you can come up with a list of all the additional things that you want to change.

All things Theme now have their own forum. Thanks ubeefx!

PS A guide about how exactly to make themes compatible for different screen resolutions would be perfect. I don't know who could write it...
