MTGForge 05/17 (unofficial BETA) version

Postby DennisBergkamp » 18 May 2009, 01:31

New version with 1632 cards! I removed the token pics for now. I usually included them, but I wasn't sure whether to use Rob's or Chris' pictures...

Fixes:

- added "Protection from artifacts" keyword.
- added "Untap:{cost}" keyword.
- Fixed a bunch of Changeling issues, Tribal cards with changeling should be able to be fetched correctly now as well.
- Fixed AI side for Fire Imp and Flametongue Kavu (they will target themselves now if no other legal targets exist).
- Fixed some ownership/control issues with Pongify.
- Fixed some issues with Engineered Plague / Shared Triumph and creatures with changeling.
- Kinship should work on changeling creatures now.
- Indestructible creatures shouldn't be removed from combat anymore after "lethal" first strike damage has resolved.
- Added rares' fix for Flame Javelin.
- Fixed AI targeting side of Pendelhaven.
- Fixed Sleight of Hand being able to be played as an instant.
- Fixed Wilt-Leaf Cavaliers pic URL.
- Fixed all of the compile warnings in CardFactory.java (thanks for helping with this Rob!).

New cards:

Nantuko Husk, Fallen Angel, Phyrexian Ghoul
Ethersworn Adjudicator
Morphling
Spectral Procession
Smother
Entomb
Siege-Gang Commander
Goblin Matron
Terravore
Trinket Mage
Nullmage Shepherd
Figure of Destiny
Okina, Temple to the Grandfathers
Bunch of pro artifact creatures (thanks Chris!)
Mother of Runes (thanks Vecc!)

Why not include them both?

I enjoyed creating the tokens by hand, it was fun ... but it is a time consuming non-automated sort of process. A couple of months go by with out the need for me to create a token and I find that I tend to forget how I made them in the past. :?

I think that Rob has an automated process which should help with future tokens. I recently downloaded his archive of jpgs and was amazed at how nice they are. Rob has found a way to use some sort of a gradient type of fill which is very useful for those two color tokens.

I would not mind if we changed over to Rob's tokens.

Ok cool, I really don't care either way, since I use the official images anyway :)

Next time I'll include both... I was feeling too tired (lazy) to create some other web hosting account to post this version with both sets of pictures (since it would push it past the 2 meg limit).

Thanks for another great update Dennis!
Siege-Gang Commander and Goblin Matron will mean an update to my Kiki-Jiki/Stuffy Doll deck. =D>
Nullmage Shepherd means an update to all my elf decks. :D
Ethersworn Adjudicator just begs me to make a deck with it, eventhough I usually prefer mono colored decks .
Morphling reminds me of the good old days, when I had a RL deck with this card as my main killer. Going to try and make some sort of deck with it as well.

So you certainly keep me busy with this update! =D>
All this and bughunting too. Almost too much excitement to fit into less than 2K of code.
](*,) = coder at work, according to a coder. It does explain some of the bugs.

You can make decent looking tokens with MSE I find. And if you have a sense of humor/interest in funny pics you can even go hunting for images that relate in some way to the tokens. :)

You're welcome, I hope all of the changeling bugs are fixed by now :)
Yes, Ethersworn Adjudicator looks like a pretty imbalanced card if you ask me...

By the way, I forgot to mention, the ability of Siege-Gang Commander requires you to first pick the target, then select the goblin to sac. This might be a bit confusing at first.

Gando, I've never heard of MSE, what is it ? I just look online and download the official tokens (or some of them are non-official I guess, tokens like Voja) and resize them.

MSE - Magic Set Editor
http://magicseteditor.sourceforge.net/tracker

It's an Open source project that allows one to quickly create realistic-looking card images without Photoshop. The artists there have built templates for a number of card games, primarily Magic. The basic Magic template they have is low quality, so it's not the greatest for printing. Wizards has used a version of it for their new style of playtest cards, and has also used it to dummy up cards for some articles. Evan Erwin uses it constantly for his Magic Show at StarCityGames.com.
I was active in that community for a while. I developed a high-res template to make Magic cards that my daughter and I could play that didn't require reading. Now she's reading pretty well, so I'll hold onto them until my son gets older, and she can start with real cards.

As far as making new token cards, it's easy, but the tricky part is making sure that tokens.txt is accurate with any new tokens included. I also need to patch the new cards from ARB into the Oracle DB I have in a free webhosting account.

I can let you into the free webhost for future uploads.
The Force will be with you, Always.

This version of forge includes the very latest and newest quest data files. Several of the old original AI decks were deleted. Some of the existing decks were adjusted. And some new decks were also added. I think there is a total of 80+ decks at this time.

I was able to add several of Vecc's decks and gohongohon decks. Thank you guys for pitching in and making the contribution. =D>

At this time there should be enough decks for people to play against as they journey on their quest. :D

Okay, I've just finished (40 wins) the quest on Very Hard for the third time (using the last release, from May 3rd) and I thought I'd pass on my impressions. I initially felt getting a new pack after every two wins or two losses was too often -- I was 20-1 after 21 matches. And then I ran into the harder decks and I needed every pack I got just in order to have enough good cards to compete. I finished up 40-11 (I restarted one match where the computer wouldn't stop "thinking"), but I think I lost four of my last five matches. If the AI was any better a player, I'd whine about the unfair advantage the computer gets with playing with such good constructed decks against a sealed deck (but it's not, so I won't :) ). It was quite challenging and actually pretty fun -- good job, guys, on the decks. I'm pressing on with a totally different build of my card pool (I got a Sliver Queen after my 40th win, so I'm pairing it up with the Sliver Legion I never used...)
BTW, can somebody fix the typo in the Quest Mode? The record should be wins and losses (not wins and loses). Thanks,

That's OK, Dennis.

We don't expect for you to be perfect. You are doing a great job co-ordinating your work with everyone else's work. We do not thank you enough for your efforts. =D>

Thank you for your feedback, AC.

I am approaching the end of a short 10 game quest. I chose to go with three colors because I received a Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker in my starting pool. I got it out in one game but the computer attacked it with all of it's creatures. Nicol went down in flames.

I am glad to see that the decks are working fairly well at this time. By the time that we reach the harder decks we should have won at least 50 % of our games and have improved our deck with a few new cards. I think that most people would enjoy this type of experience.

The harder decks have some real tough pit type bosses. In today's world of video games we have come to expect that we will face a few pit boss opponents.

Dennis, great job. I hated doing all of the little fixes which are very important but very annoying.
