Problems with searching
by ajacobs899 » 11 Feb 2015, 00:08
I'm trying to look for cards that are either unblockable or cannot be blocked, but typing either of these in the card search box come up entirely empty. I've tried toggling the different search filters, but nothing happens. I simply can't search for cards using these keywords. I've tried with any other ability (indestructible, flying, trample, first strike, and even more obscure abilities like provoke). The only ability I can't search for is unblockable and "cannot be blocked".

Update: the search works for "can't be blocked", but still doesn't work for unblockable.

According to Gatherer, there is no "Unblockable". The comprehensive rules say
Unblockable (Obsolete): A term that meant "can't be blocked." Cards that used this term have received errata in the Oracle card reference.
An example would be Whispersilk Cloak.
Also, if you're talking about a specific software, you should post in their forum to avoid misunderstandings. Some applications might have only recently updated their wordings.

I wasn't aware that they removed the term unblockable. Is there any reason they did this? I would think it would be easier on everyone if they just kept the term.silly freak wrote:According to Gatherer, there is no "Unblockable". The comprehensive rules say

I think it had to do with adding and removing abilities. Consider these examples
Target creature can't be blocked.
Target greature loses all abilities.
--> still can't be blocked
Target creature gains unblockable.
Target greature loses all abilities.
--> can be blocked
Why they wanted it this way, I don't know. It's inconsistent with Flying and Indestructible. But that's a reason why it makes a difference.

I think the other major reason they wanted to change it is to make it consistent with cards that were conditionally "Unblockable"
can't be blocked.
can't be blocked except by...
can't be blocked by...
can't be blocked as long as...
can't be blocked.

I think they could have done like with Protection and Landwalk: "Unblockable by [quality]" and similar, but your point is surely one they had in mind. It does sound better this way, and I think I've read that they do less Protection and Landwalk nowadays because they consider it too complex.

You probably should be posting in the xmage boards: viewforum.php?f=70linderoth wrote:hello dont know if this is the right place for this think is related. i am new to this xmage thing but in my first deck i found that i cant find evolution charm. is this a bug?

But I'm fairly certain that XMage doesn't support 100% of all Magic cards, so it could just not be implemented yet.
