Shandalar Update Patches: Pre Alpha Software Edition
by Bog Wraith » 12 May 2015, 04:26
Creating new thread here as a sticky topic to host this first & all the subsequent pre alpha software patches which will be released as Korath moves toward an official alpha software edition.
When that happens, this thread will be become a normal topic as it is being replaced by a new sticky topic that will contain all the alpha releases. The same will be done when the project moves on to its beta edition phase.
Doing this so it makes it easier for everyone to find the most current Shandalar updates as they are posted.
A BIG thanks goes out to gmzombie for recommending that we proceed in this manner!
I am copying the gist of Korath's first alpha pre release info here as well as posting the links for the 2 files that constitute this first update. There are 3 lists of cards and some info regarding them that apply to this first release, but since I am only moving the files & the easy installation instructions here for the sake of brevity, I am providing a direct link to those card lists & info, as well as the more complicated long installation setup method should anyone like or need more information:
viewtopic.php?p=178459#p178459
Here are the installation instructions, followed by the link to both the files needed to update the game:
Installation directions
It should work correctly to
1. Install Shandalar from any of the recent versions posted in this forum.
2.Install Manalink into the same directory, overwriting everything.
3. Update Manalink to the Fate Reforged patch (not any later ones, for the now), including the art updates. (Just the Manalink art updates is fine; you don't need to install the CardArtShandalar package.)
4. Unzip the attached package into the same directory.
...but I haven't tried that. Please let me know if you do and it works, because the long version that I used is even more unconscionably complex.
This is pre-alpha software. Many, even most, of the cards I've added I haven't played in a duel yet even once. There's some configuration options in Shandalar.ini, including a method to turn off cards that are too buggy to deal with.
None of the AI decks have been changed, except for Merfolk Shaman.

followed directions posted in the thread and tinkered around a bit.
new cards appeared in villages.
lists let you see all of the cards of the color with tabs to view more.
played a few duals no noticeable issues.
this is a great thing I loved the idea of the original shandalar and this makes it infinitely better than you to everyone involved.

I'm sorry in advanced if the answer to my question is obvious, but, um, unzip which package where?
"Isn't the shortest route through the canyon?"
"Yes."
"So shouldn't we—"
"No."
"Yes."
"So shouldn't we—"
"No."

Current version.
Please don't reply to this thread unless it's to announce a new version or installation package; the whole point is to have a low-traffic thread that people can subscribe to without having to get emailed for every little thing posted to the development thread.

I've cleaned up the full Shandalar AddOn for Manalink 3 and updated it to Korath's 2015-08-03 Thieves Hideout 1 preAlpha release. His version currently requires the full Manalink 3 2015-03-25 Fate Reforged release, so to get the game running:
1) Download the archive Manalink3_20150325.7z found at one of the links in my signature. Extract it to a neutral folder where you have full permissions (ie. not C:\Program Files\).
2) Look inside the new \Manalink3\ folder and click on the batch file Manalink_Launcher.cmd to install the default Mods for Manalink 3. When the Launcher returns to the Main Menu hit 'ESC' to exit.
3) Download the archive Shandalar Korath preAlpha ThievesHideout1.7z from one of the links in my signature, move it to the '\Manalink3\' folder created by the previous archive, and extract it in place to update the '\Program\' folder with all of the Shandalar goodness. This archive contains all of the essential files to run Shandalar + all enemy animations and remaining sound files + Korath's Thieves Hideout 1 preAlpha update + SVEtool v0.2.
4) Open the folder \Manalink3\Program\ and click on Shandalar.exe to start the game.
I've omitted CardArt from the Manalink 3 download to minimize it's size, but Sonic's CardArt downloads for this release can be found here on MediaFire:
CardArtManalink_2012.zip
CardArtUpdates_2012_2014.zip
CardArtUpdate_March2015.zip
Extract the first archive to create the folder \CardArtManalink\. Extract the other two archives and place all of the image files into \CardArtManalink\, then move the folder into \Manalink3\Program\. Complete folder should contain 14076 image files.
All hail Sonic, huzzah!
This should get you up and running, and should keep you running until Korath decides to change Manalink releases (assuming there ever is a new Manalink release ^_^).
If you're having problems with enemy animations not working, please try installing the CCCP and let us know if it fixes your issue.

Current version in the (unstable) Thieves Hideout series. Loremaster's Tower 3 (here) is still the current stable version.
