Manalink Update 9/9 - Challenge Set 2 and major unlock

Postby jatill » 09 Sep 2009, 17:41

http://rapidshare.com/files/278616959/20090911.zip

Challenge set 2 is now available. To access it, run challenge mode as normal, and then choose Challenge Set 2. You can choose to try any of the 8 available challenges. Each one unlocks a different card. If you auto-lose the challenge as soon as you start, it's probably because your deck is illegal. 5 of the 8 challenge have deck building requirements that can be inferred from the challenge names. Here's what each challenge unlocks:

-Super Mulligan (Rout)
-What Hand? (Brain Freeze)
-That's Big... (Goblin Charbelcher) [only cast cost 4 and greater allowed]
-Epic (Manabond)
-There can be only one (Street Wraith) [100+ card highlander deck]
-March of the Machines (Tangle Wire) [artifacts only]
-Land Ho! (Gemstone Mine) [lands only]
-Dude... (Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker) [creatures only]

And I am also unlocking most of the cards from Challenge Set 1. 1 card from each challenge is staying locked permanently, though.

Unlocked cards:
Jester's Cap
Avalanche Riders
Fulminator Mage
Demigod of Revenge
Psychatog
Shriekmaw
Grim Lavamancer
Enchantress's Presence
Opposition
Mind over Matter
Serra's Sanctum
Smokestack
Coalition Relic
Serrated Arrows
Pestermite

Thanks a lot =D>
This update seems amazing once again :D
I was dreaming about most of the rewards cards = Tangle Wire, Goblin Charbelcher, Brain Freeze and Gemstone Mine.
And Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker is one of my favorite Magic card (and the most powerfull goblin in Magic too  )
Thanks again.

Great, now I get to waste MORE time on these challenges :p I like the choice of most of the new reward cards, too. Goblin Charbelcher, Tangle Wire, and Gemstone Mine were key in many decks back when I played, and Pestermite and Kiki-Jiki are just asking to be abused in so many ways. Manabond looks fun in that 42-land deck that was mentioned in another thread. (and that I tried to build with Fastbond+4 enlightened tutors, but it sucked hard) Brain Freeze should be quite useful too, in Tendrils-style decks that want to win in a different way, and you could probably do a monoblue Brain Freeze deck quite well.

I'm a little baffled by the inclusion of Rout, though, since we already have Wrath of God and Final Judgement. The instant speed option will be handy at times, though, and at least in terms of a coding achievement, it's a very nice job, indeed.

jatill continues to amaze me...

barring any changes to Shandalar the challenge mode has been the most fun I have had with this program though draft mode came close.

why he continues to torture me by not including Tradewind Rider is beyond me, alas!

thanks for the update :D

uploaded the patch to my webspace. also added the missing pics for the added cards(better quality this time). -> check signature

thanks for activating autotargeting again.feel free to use my lists for autotargeting(attached).

i´ve noticed some bugs with the new challenges.
so far i´ve tried the highlander/all artifact challenges and encountered the same "bug" (after winning game one it lets me choose again which challenge i´d like to do(after that playing agains my own decks).i doubt that this is intended unless i just have to win once :)

The 'March of the Machines' challenge worked fine for me. I have some questions about 'Dude...' though:

a) Lands are illegal? Really? Thats rough! I ended up making it through the ten rounds, using Dryad Arbors and Elvish Spirit Guides to pump out a turn 1 Elf / Birds / Noble Hierarch and go from there...

b) After the 10 rounds, I had to play against the decks from the Vanguard Challenge. Is this how it is supposed to be? I got to round 17, but the Turbofog deck is pretty harsh when all of your mana sources are creatures too...

The land one is going to be tough too I think...

Have you gone through all 10 rounds after this? Does it unlock a card?
Also, can you duplicate this regularly? I've seen this happen, but only once.
I suspect that you forgot to restart challenge mode after losing a challenge.

I have not seen any bugs so far, except the usual random game crashes, apart from that it's fine. I did "March of Machines" already and got my reward as expected, seems to be working fine.

The land one and super mulligan are meant to be the toughest. After all, the land one is strictly harder than both Epic and That's Big.

The game should end after round 10, like the normal challenge. Not sure why it didn't for you. Looks like a bug.

Three updates:
1) The 'Dude' challenge wouldn't ever end and unlock a card. Oops.
2) Made Pestermite free, and added Street Wraith as a reward card.
3) And this is the nice one... tutoring now alphabetizes your deck. Lemme know if this has any negative side effects.

I really liked the possibility of chosing which challenge you want to go for in this Challenge Set 2, unlike challenge Set 1 where if you got stuck at a certain point it would be pretty frustrating. Please keep it this way if you decide to add more Challenges to the game.

I also really like this arrangement of challenges, Could you please change the first challenge to that configuration as well?

I really don't like the fourth one because you will have to use an unstable deck.

STREET WRAITH! SWEET! I haven't actually even installed the last update yet, but I'm looking forward to this :p The alphabetizing the deck sounds really handy for my 499 card decks. Ever try to tutor for a one-of when your deck is that big? Not fun.
