Large Text Re-Render Project

Postby proud » 31 Oct 2016, 22:55

Hi all!

I’m working on a project to re-render all cards with larger text and no flavor text or reminder text. I think this would be extremely helpful for players on game clients like Forge, XMage or Cockatrice, where all we need to see is the artwork and the basic rules.

What pixel sizes would be good for these card images, and what sets should I start with for re-rendering?

I typically use the 200dpi cards in apps I use.

This is a much needed project. It would be nice to have images using the latest oracle text, especially for the older cards. Magarena currently uses images from magiccards.info which are 312x445 pixels.

As to which sets, the older sets would benefit from this more, especially ones where the oracle text is different from what is on the printed card.

Great idea, and I second the Oracle text comment above. I use 200dpi images because they offer a good tradeoff between quality and performance for Forge and Xmage.

Cockatrice and Magarena scales images to fit, right? Would it be helpful to have higher sized images than the minimum?

300 dpi is 744 x 1039
200 dpi is 496 x 693
150 dpi is 372 x 520
130 dpi is 322 x 450 (312 x 445 with a border)
107 dpi is 265 x 370

So… should I make 2 versions, one at 200 dpi and another at 130 dpi?

Should I make cards without borders?
