Another idea I had is this:

If a card has multiple printings, don't display them in alphabetical order, but rather in release order, with the oldest printing first.

There was a Planechase Gatherer update. Also, there is still a minor issue with nonstandard characters, which keep showing only as dashes, and are put after everything else alphabetically. This affects cards like Deja vu, for example.

Updated with todays Gatherer including plane cards: Data / Text

The non-ASCII implementation was to lenient/naive so it managed to miss alot of characters - fixed.

There's Zendikar in the Gatherer database now... but there might be some changes later since Gottlieb is sick, so the rules update didn't appear yet.

My connection has been down for the last couple of days (currently at work). According to support it might be down for another couple of days. I'll make an update as soon as it gets back up.

OK, I'm confused. Haven't Wizards said that the Gatherer update will be online on October 2nd? It's 9th and they still haven't updated :( I was looking forward to seeing the Vanguards...

Update Data / Text

Has there been an announcement about Vanguard coming to gatherer? I flipped through some of the recent news at the homepage without finding anything about it.

Yes, some time ago:

But I don't see any update yet... is it possible they forgot?

Ha - seems they finally got to updating Gatherer!

I still can't see Vanguards, but at least Parallax cards and so are updated.

I made a new version for myself, and decided to share it. It's Arch's latest version with the following changes:

1. Two new planes added (Celestine Reef and Horizon Boughs). I left the rarity as HOP S.

2. Snow mana symbol corrected (it was always displaying as {S}i} instead of {S})

3. Vanguard cards, both the 32 paper ones and the 74 online ones. I didn't include Stangg and Zodiac Dragon who apparently exist only as avatars, not as vanguards.

I tried to update the wording of Vanguards as much as possible, though some can be interpreted in more than one way (Eladamri seems to be particularly hard to write). The Vanguards' texts are NOT meant to be official, I'm just filling the hole since Wizards didn't put them on the Gatherer yet.

EDIT: I updated the file a bit - the official type of Vanguard is supposed to be "Vanguard", not "Avatar", and I corrected a few mistakes.

Where did you get the Vanguard data from? Is this the official place to get their stats and abilities? (Guessing Gatherer is actually the official place for cards but if they're not there...) I found a number of pages about avatars but none seemed to deal with all of them.

And what's the difference between a "Vanguard card" and an "avatar"? They seem to be used interchangeably in many places.

I'll add a snow mana fix for the next release.

Yes, that's the page. I don't know if this is the OFFICIAL page, but it seems to be the best.

As for difference between Vanguard and avatar, AFAIK, Vanguard is something within the game, while avatar is generally how you look to people in MTGO.
