Huh, this fix is still not working for me. I've turned off my Windows firewall completely and still all I get is the little think circle for about 3 seconds then nothing.

1- Have you disabled DEP compatibility mode for Magic.exe?
Note: You must have administrator access to do this

Go to My computer > Right click it and click Properties
At the left part of your window click > remote setttings
Click the Advanced Tab
Under Performance > Click Settings (the uppermost most button)
Now Click the Data Execution Prevention (DEP) tab
Select
o Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select

click add, and browse your Magic Folder(Game installation folder) and select Magic.exe.


2- If the above doesn't work try to deactivate your anti-virus, too or better before that put in the exception list of your anti-virus ManalinkEh.dll, ManalinkEx.dll and CSV2dat.exe and see if that will work.

Have you also switched off the Windows Defender Smartscreen? My mistake was to kill the firewall, thinking it was the only thing the doctor ordered.

If you go to the Windows Defender Security Center, there are five links to click. The one second from the right is called App & webreader control (roughly translated from Swedish). If you enter, the first function you will find is Check apps & files (again loosely translated). Switching that one off, did the trick for me.

Still nothing. I've done all of the above and still Magic.exe doesn't want to run. I have no clue what else to do. Shandalar and the deckbuilder run fine, I just can't get anywhere to use the new cards. So frustrating.

Alas, I too have the Win10 problem on my new laptop.
I copied the (working) game folder from my old Win7 desktop - didn't work. Downloaded this version - didn't work. Tried all the fixes I could find here in SM - didn't work. Every time I get the 'thinking circle', then nothing.

Didn't realise how much I'd miss it :/

Maybe turn off DEP for all programs and select DEP only for windows programs?

You could however make a copy of this = Fate Reforged installation in a new path and install on top of the copy (so you don't ruin both installations) the Eldritch Moon update overwriting everything and see if you have less crashes this way, which seems unlikely though.

That is the reason why I made this installation because the last 2 (and others) are no longer available.We can't distribute them after Korath's request relevant topic:

Only if you have the Eldritch Moon.zip file in your downloads folder you can do as I suggested.

@Aswan jaguar many, many thanks to you for this. I built a new Win10 machine earlier this year, and had dreaded trying to figure out which of the old .rar files I had archived needed to be installed and in which order. Your recent package made all of those decisions moot. Kudos to you for all of your work and to those who came before.

Has anyone had any new luck with Win10? Mine used to work until one day it didn't. I have all of Korath's stuff up to BZv2 and reinstalled it but just spinning icon. Tried this version, same thing. AV is turned off DEP is set to essential windows files only. Defender has Manalink in its approved list.

If you can find out what happened that day - what was installed or upgraded that day by windows?, by antivirous? by antimalware or anything maybe we can find out what is the problem.

I've had the same problem - ever since the most recent Win10 updates earlier this week, launching magic.exe runs the program, but doesn't draw it on the screen; ie. I can see it running in task manager, but nowhere else. I'm considering rolling back the updates just for that.

Somehow, Shandalar.exe & Deck.exe work fine.

It is probable that the work they did to ensure that Windows Defender Device Guard and Application Control doesn't block some applications it blocks others.

From latest windows 10 update December 12, 2017—KB4054517 (OS Build 16299.125):
Addresses issue where Windows Defender Device Guard and Application Control block some applications from running, even in Audit-Only Enforcement Mode.

It would be nice to hear if people that already had problems running Manalink before the new update, if they can run manalink now.
If you have problem running manalink under windows 10 please try to put it in a permission list for Windows Defender Device Guard and Application Control if such thing exist. (I don't have windows 10 device to check).
