Recent Standard Format Quest Worlds

Just for a bit of fun I wrote a small script to randomly pick some decks from specific historical Standard formats (taken from one of the big website extracts from this forum) and convert them to the quest world format so that I could play quest mode as a time-machine travelling back to each format by creating a quest starting in that world - or simply travelling to the world in any quest. In case anyone wants to try it out I will attach the decklists. I randomly assigned up to 100 standard decks per format into Easy/Medium slots - then assigned Modern decks (from that same Standard period) to the Hard/Very Hard decks.

For more time-travelling options I also created some additional formats to represent these old standard formats - this makes it possible to easily filter your decklists to find older standard legal sets. Just add this to the formats.txt file:

[Aether Revolt]
Sets:KLD, AER, EMN, SOI, BFZ, OGW
[Kaladesh]
Sets:KLD, AER, EMN, SOI, BFZ, OGW
[Avacyn]
Sets:SOM, MBS, NPH, M12, ISD, DKA, AVR
[Battle for Zendikar]
Sets:M15, KTK, FRF, DTK, ORI, BFZ
[Dark Ascension]
Sets:SOM, MBS, NPH, M12, ISD, DKA
[Dragons of Tarkir]
Sets:THS, BNG, JOU, M15, KTK, FRF, DTK
[Eldritch Moon]
Sets:EMN, SOI, OGW, BFZ, ORI, DTK, KTK, FRF
[Zendikar_Standard]
Sets:ALA, CFX, ARB, M10, ZEN
[Theros]
Sets:JOU, BNG, THS, M14
[New_Phyrexia]
Sets:NPH, MBS, SOM, M11
[Shadows_Over_Innistrad]
Sets:SOI, OGW, BFZ, ORI, DTK, KTK, FRF
[Oath_of_the_Gatewatch]
Sets:OGW, BFZ, ORI, KTK, DTK, FRF
[Born_of_the_Gods]
Sets:JOU, BNG, THS, M14
[Fate Reforged]
Sets:THS, BNG, JOU, M15, KTK, FRF
[Gatecrash]
Sets:ISD, DKA, AVR, M13, RTR, GTC
[Innistrad]
Sets:SOM, MBS, NPH, M12, ISD
[Khans]
Sets:THS, BNG, JOU, M15, KTK
[Origins]
Sets:KTK, FRF, DTK, ORI
[Journey into Nyx]
Sets:RTR, GTC, DGM, M14, THS, BNG, JOU
[Scars of Mirrodin]
Sets:ZEN, WWK, ROE, M11, SOM
[Mirrodin Besieged]
Sets:ZEN, WWK, ROE, M11, SOM, MBS
[Return to Ravnica]
Sets:ISD, DKA, AVR, M13, RTR
[Rise of the Eldrazi]
Sets:ALA, CFX, ARB, M10, ZEN, WWK, ROE
[Worldwake]
Sets:ALA, CFX, ARB, M10, ZEN, WWK

Please note that either of these changes will be overwritten when the resource files are updated for new versions - so keep a backup or be prepared to re-deploy when needed. I don't think these worlds/formats are polished enough to suggest committing them to the SVN default setup - they are just for fun. I know there are some mistakes in the legal set lists (and I haven't included banned lists) but those can be corrected if needed.

These custom formats can now be added to a separate customworlds.txt file in your user preferences directory from SVN 33864

Oh, this sounds really fun! :) Thanks for this effort, I'll take a look!
(Note to self: I need to update that "big website extract" deck pack that was referred to some day... :D )

(btw, would you like to share the script you've used?)

Here is the crude script as it is now. Happy to work on it and clean it up a bit, but it is usable if you wanted to try it. It's a bash script, just untar the folder somewhere, copy the full decklists into the Standard and Modern folders for each set, then run the script with the folder name of the set e.g.:

./createQuest.sh New_Phyrexia

This will create the folder in the worlds folder, and the decks folder below that with the 100 randomly selected decks. There is a grep filter in the script to only include filenames with "#" in the path as I found those filenames gave the better descriptions to use - so it will only work currently with decklists with that naming format (see the New_Phyrexia folder that I left in the tar as an example.

Let me know if I missed something and you can't get it running.

It was your decklist:

mtgdecksnet-AI-playable-10-feb-2017.tar

that I used as the source data - that had the nicely separated Modern/Standard lists with the descriptive filenames.

Thanks for those - updates definitely welcome

For now I just ran this script once for each world, then manually updated the worlds.txt file with my best guess as to what the standard format's set list was at the time.

Thanks a lot for the script, it'll come in handy! :)
And this is actually incentive enough to update my deck conversion script for higher "quality standards", for example, not to contain any incomplete (<60 cards) decks, etc. :)

Here is a new Ixalan world set of quest duels - I generated this with a script (picking random mtddecks Standard lists that are AI playable and from Ixalan), but then played them off against each other in a swiss tournament in Forge - then set the difficulty based on the results of that event. I have included a txt file with the world definition line to add to your customworlds.txt file too.

The files came without any "enter" spaces (all on one line). Is there any way to fix this or will I have to go and do it manually?

Which file are you having issues with? I suspect it would be a Windows/Linux issue but they look fine on both for me - perhaps it is the editor you are using..

What editor do you use because I haven't been using an editor per se as much as Notepad

EDIT: NVM I fixed it, the sets in the world file didn't have spaces and when I added them they fixed it... My b

Great - yes, the spaces were missing, the line for the custom worlds text file should be :

Name:Ixalan|Dir:Ixalan|Sets:XLN, AKH, HOU, KLD, AER

I've updated the zip

Hello.
Could you share your batch code/script for converting dck to quest duel deck?
How exactly the batch process is done? What tools needed for that?
I'm planning to make custom world with hundred or possibly thousand deck of modern and standard format.

Quest mode is what I enjoyed the most in Forge. I'm having fun building my collection frow few boosters, building my deck by buying booster at the shop (the randomness of what you get from booster is part of the fun, like the real paper version). I usually play with low starting money, few booster as starting pool, more wins needed to unlock expansion and unlock higher difficulty AI etc.. And with that setting, usually the battle seems repetitive, I'm facing same deck again and again, so I think if the quest world contain hundred or thousand deck this repeating pattern can be reduced and I can enjoy the quest mode with more fun at the long playing time.

Thank you. :)

The tools are in the attachment above, you just need a bash shell if remember.

Here is a Dominaria quest world https://drive.google.com/folderview?id= ... c9840h99nq

Just add this

Name:Dominaria|Dir:Dominaria|Sets:DOM, RIX, XLN, AKH, HOU, KLD, AER

to your quest/world/customworlds.txt file and copy the Dominaria folder into your quest/world
