Manalink Update Dec 25 : Merry Christmas Update
by jatill » 25 Dec 2009, 04:15
Merry Christmas. You have been good so there are lots of Manalink gifts to give. In fact, this release is probably my favorite ever, since half-a-dozen different people had a hand in its creation.
Just make sure you have a lot of free bandwidth, since there are some seriously heavy downloads. You may want to back up your magic folder before downloading, since there are lots of changes here.
Files (I would recommend getting them all)
Latest Code Patch (required): http://www.mediafire.com/file/3mkgmzztt0z/20091224.zip or http://rapidshare.com/files/325361372/20091224.zip
Non-Card Art (required): http://www.mediafire.com/file/zligw1dzj ... rd_art.zip or http://rapidshare.com/files/325376187/noncard_art.zip
CardArtNew: http://www.mediafire.com/file/gowmtiznt ... artnew.zip or http://rapidshare.com/files/325370452/cardartnew.zip
CardArtLim: (the .jpg files should all go into a new folder called c:\magic\cardartlim) http://www.mediafire.com/file/g3ftxgykj ... artlim.zip or http://rapidshare.com/files/325360149/cartartlim.zip
As always, don’t worry about virus warnings. One of the new files in the code patch specifically deletes certain files, which is practically a virus by definition.
First, the non-card updates
1) Switcher.exe is gone. Instead, there are now 2 separate versions that you can run directly (Magic.exe and MagicLimited.exe). Use one for constructed play and one for limited. If you want, you can also switch between the versions in-game through the ‘Switcher’ button. (Thanks to Snacko for answering lots of questions about dll’s, and Mathusalem for updating the art)
2) To delete old draft decks, you can now choose that option under ‘Tools’ while in the Limited version.
3) If you edit or create cards, use CardEditor.exe and CardEditorLimited.exe instead of SkyMagicEditor. (SkyMagicEditor is still required). You no longer have to run csv2dat.exe after making changes. On the down side, if you are using CardEditorLimited, make sure to close it out before running the game, or your changes will not work. Bad things will also happen if you close the command prompt window before closing the limited editor.
4) New deck builder art! You can thank gmzombie for writing the code and mathusalem for the art update.
5) A bunch of new challenges have been added, with 5 new cards to unlock: http://www.slightlymagic.net/wiki/Chall ... t_unlocked. There are also 2 new decks added to the challenge Gauntlet.
New Cards: (with credit given in parens)

A lot of these cards are only lightly tested, so make sure to report those bugs, and include savegames when possible.
Known Bugs:

-Goblin Raiding Party does not have Pro White
-Goblin War Drums/Two-Headed Dragon: Multiple blocking works poorly for AI
Enjoy! Other than bug fixes, this is the last version I plan on releasing for at least a month.

I downloaded the 1104 update from above but can't get the 1224. Can someone host it somewhere other than rapidshare? Also, I got an error unzipping cardartlim (1952.jpg was broken) and noncard_art (TERR_BLUEMANA.png was broken). Looks like those were fine for everyone else though...
I can't wait to dig in and play with some of these new cards! Thanks so much for everyone's hard work. Merry Christmas if you celebrate!

that's awesome i didn't even know about the other cards and whatnot...this is truly a good day when you can see so many peeps help out. I was excited to get the deckbuilder looking good as it has always been a eyesore in the game in my opinion. Also Jatill i wish you would have came to me i think i have a version that mok gave me with all the fallen empires already in a csv, they would have just needed to be added to the right area. but none the less this is great.
ALSO: You can download the 12/24 manlink from my site at the top...but that is the only zip i have on there other files are for coding.

Use jdownloader http://jdownloader.org/. It will queue up all your downloads for you. In the meantime, be patient. jatill uploaded to two sites already which is our standard protocol and is quite generous. If MediaFire continues to be down we'll do something else.

Thanks for the update. Could you provide a bit more details with the challenges? For ABCs, is it all your spells must start with same later + basics and beta duals? I can't get that one to work.

Oh my, I'm amazed. Santa exists!
Jatill, assuming that I'll dowload the files later, how the new versions will work? Will still we have a best-of and a second version or have you managed to make things easier?
Anyway, I'm almost without words due to happyness!

Due to the massive nature of changes in this version, a fresh download is almost warranted (but certainly not necessary). Has anyone successfully gotten the new version working from the links I provided? I hope so, based on the number of times they've been downloaded already!

I recommend this Add-on for mozilla users, to skip the waiting time in Rapidshare. It's safe as far as I know:
