Masterbase and Themes FAQ
by Goblin Hero » 28 May 2008, 21:22
Here's a small FAQ which can help you if you have problems.
1. Download masterbase. Go to http://www.slightlymagic.net/base.shtml and click on the corresponding link. If you see strange characters on your screen try another browser or right click link and select "Save link as..." You'll get an .rar file.
2. Unpack masterbase. RAR is an archiver similar to ZIP (but with much better comression). You'll need WinRAR (http://www.rarlabs.com/), 7zip or any other program which can unpack RAR archives.
3. Replace Master.mwBase and Data\Sets.dat files in the MWS folder with the new ones. Make sure to replace both files.
4. That's all. Now you can run MWS.
5. If you're using Vista and have problems - disabled the UAC.
If you want to install themes:
1. Download them.
2. Unpack *.mwTheme files to the Themes folder which is inside MWS folder.
3. Run MWS and change graphic theme (Tools->Preferences->Interface).
4. Sometimes MWS just shuts down then trying to change the theme. It's not theme's problem. It's MWS bugs. There's a solution from GTAkito. Try to delete the sample in the "custom sets" folder, then open the program and change theme under interface as directed.
If you still have problems - feel free to ask me in the forum or via e-mail.

I don't understand what you mean by 'replace Data\Sets.dat files in the MWS folder with the new ones.' When I downloaded the masterbase it was only one file. What do I replace the Data\Sets.dat file with?
(I probably sound really stupid...)

Check again. Inside MasterBase.rar, there is definitely a Data folder containing Sets.dat.

The lastest patch for Shadowmoor doesn't work. None of the Shadowmoor cards show up, even when the filter is set Shadowmoor only. Please help!

It would be wise to package installation instructions along with the downloads. That saves a lot of trouble for first time users and should be common practice.

You're right.
How should those instructions read?

I've done everything listed in the instruction and I still can't see anything past Lorwyn in my deck editor. How do I fix this?

Hi!
With the new master base I don't have access to any card prior coldsnap.
Is this normal? And are there any ways to fix this?
Thanks so much!

Not normal. Try ctrl-M to reload the masterbase. If that doesn't work, try a clean install, using only the latest base. MWS gets wonky if updated more than a few times.

Hello!
When i update up to the latest masterbase (the one that includes Jace Vs. Chandra and Conflux) it repalces (obviously) my old masterbase, in whcih i had cards that i manually edited, so i wanted to know if theres another way to just update the JVC and the conlfux sets, because are the only ones i dont have, or in any case, if i could get the txt. spoiler to add them manually, i cant find JVC text spiler anywere

I have vista and haven't been able to install shards of alara or conflux. I followed the instructions w/ the exception of not knowing what a "uac" is. Could someone please help me??

Search google for "disable UAC" and all will be revealed.

Critical Error-File C:\MWS\data\Rulings.dat not intialized. Reinstall MWS.
Running Vista with the UAC off. All I did was the same thing I've done in the past to update and deleted the previous base with the new one from the Rar and replaced the Data folder. Tried changing back to the previous versions of the files from the Recycle Bin and I'm getting the same results.
Tough luck right before Regionals. Any advice?

Have you reinstalled MWS from scratch? It doesn't like to be updated more than once.
