Bug hunters topic

Postby Salbei » 17 Feb 2011, 02:11

Bughunters needed! | Open
I simply can´t do everything on my own, so i would need a few reliable people to act as "Bughunters".

The job is very simple and can be done by everyone.
-Just check the Bug Reports forum regularly
-download the attachments posted in there and try to re-create the reported bug
-confirm the bug (reply to the initial topic)
-in case a savegame is missing then please try to create a savegame that can reproduce the bug, post a reply and attach a savegame

And that is all.

One of the moderators will then re-name the topic to [confirmed] or [unconfirmed] as soon as possible.

This way our developers could focus on important stuff without having to watch every single post. They just have to look out for that [confirmed] and can immediately try to fix things.

Once a solution to the Bug has been found the topic will get updated with the new status [fixed] or [unsolvable].

Guidelines and Tutorials

General Idea:
The basic idea of this Bug Reports section is to keep the Developers job nice and easy so they can "focus" on greater things like:
-adding new cards
-fix bugs
-add new features
-and finally enable Manalink 2.0 to make me some coffee (sooooon!)

Since we cannot help with adding new features/cards beyond simple testing i figured out this system is the next best thing to help.
It is our "focus" to keep Bug Reports correct and organized.

What we do:
We are here to verify that savegames can reproduce the actual reported bug and the report itself is easy to understand and not misleading.

Guidelines:
We have to make sure the Bug Reports all follow a standard system and keep the quality of the reports as high as possible.
You might want to check >this< topic to get the general idea how a post should look like.

Frequent tasks:
Since most of the users do not live in the happy bunny land, where every User is following the basic rules, we come into play and have to enforce the quality of the reports.
Often times attached savegame are missing/corrupted or the report itself is misleading. Please kindly remind the Topic Creator to fix things like that before you [confirm] a bug.
Otherwise edit in the missing information yourself and make sure it is obvious that YOU changed that.

How To Rename a topic
renaming topics | Open
The act itself is as easy as editing your own post and rename the topic.
Simply click at the first post and hit "Edit". Then rename the topic :)

The system used for renaming is also very straight forward.
Topic status and the meaning behind it:
Topic status | Open
Cardname
This should be the Topics original name, naming the Card that is behaving incorrect. Fist make sure that this is the actual Card that is responsible for the Bug.
When Animate Dead can revive a Sol Ring the topic name should NOT be "Sol Ring".Rename it right there if you have to.

Cardname[unconfirmed,reason]
This should be a topic where you can not confirm the bug. Either the Card is behaving as it should (User misunderstood it) or the Bug can not be reproduced (missing/corrupt savegame , incorrect description of the bug etc).

[confirmed]Cardname
When the report itself is easy to understand and the savegame can reproduce the bug mentioned the topic should have this name.these topics should be made sticky for 60 days

[Fixed by xxx]Cardname
When a Developer has replied to the topic that the bug has been fixed.
Please add the Developers name to the title.you can unsticky those now
How To sticky/unsticky a topic
stick/unsticky | Open
Simply edit the initial topics post (first one) by clicking "Edit"
Should be self explainable.
Image[/URL]
Normal = Normal topic
Sticky = Sticky topic
Stick for XX Days = how long this is sticky. After that time it will become a normal post again.
Please add a reason for editing.

In case you wonder it is no coincidence those people replied.
I chose a couple active people that i trust to do the job and asked them via PM if they are interested.

I have informed Huggybaby about this and the people above will soon get Moderation rights at this section (Bug Reports).

We shall see if 3 additional people are enough to get the job done right in the future.Otherwise i might have to ask another person or two to help out.

I posted a very basic tutorial above.

Please use this topic to discuss possible improvements or just to let us know you won´t be around for a while.Things like that.

-----

Huggybaby should have given you Moderation rights at this forum by now.
He gave you the title "Tester" since one of you already had that existing class.
Please re-check your permissions.

Are you able to :
    Sticky/Unsticky topics
    split topics
    rename topics

I will not [confirm] any posts for a while to give you the opportunity to "get into this".
Please use this topic if there are any questions left.

Huggybaby needs to know if there are any issues with the granted permissions. Please report those in here.

aww1979 just handled his first topic on his own.
Looks like the permissions are alright.

Sure, i´ll ask Huggybaby. Then we should be enough people to consistently keep this thing running :)

Stassy and me could focus other things then without having to worry about this section with 4 designated moderators for this :)

Wouldn't be better if people told us which manalink patch they used because some bugs are already fixed in the last update? So we don't have misunderstandings.
Of course it is clearly understood that we work with the latest update.

Good point.

It should be obvious, yes. Feel free to edit the "Read Me" at will - this is "your" section now anyway :)

Note: please don´t forget to sticky [confirmed] topics.
Also please try to confirm OTHER peoples topics.

I did not write this anywhere thought it was obvious.
The mods in here should not confirm their own reported topics.
Chances are the report is incomplete / the savegame is not working because of a hasty self-confirm.

BTW Gargaroz is doing an amazing job at fixing the bugs. Most of Reports are fixed after only a day or two.

The bugs seem to be pouring in, how about we create a topic where we'd move confirmed bugs, one for unconfirmed and one for fixed bugs.

That should not be necessary. Just sticky confirmed topics and they stay ontop.
Fixed bugs (unsticky) will automatically stay down and get replaced by more recent topics (new reports).
You are supposed to confirm/unconfirm those new topics btw.

That is the general idea of this section.

Please Sticky [confirmed] topics, also please use those brackets - looks weird when 6post got them and 2 don´t.
Had to change that a couple times now.

Also:
Which manalink patch did you use?
Latest
This is ALWAYS going to be in there, even when people missed a patch. Either use a patchdate or just skip it. "Latest" is quite flexible in the near future.

17+ Bugs fixed already. Really nice job!

@Aswan jaguar + Cognis
After the next patch is published i will merge all fixed topics into the Bug Reports Archive topic.
I am waiting for the patch because otherwise people might report bugs again that are already fixed.

This should keep the topic count low, make it easier to report "new" bugs regarding the same Card and also could be used as a "reference" when cards got changed.
Should also be easy to spot those "locked" topics for merging.

Should make sense, let me know if there are any other issues / ideas.

You guys are doing a great job =D>

I toyed around with topic icons. Also added "checked" as a status as you already saw.

Heart= fixed, no further issues
Alert= fixed, other cards might still be affected or the bug MAY not be 100% fixed
Blush= checked, but not fixed yet

When the next patch arrives i am going merge all fixed topics into the archive so the forum should be "empty" again.

Should help to keep the overview. Let me know what you think about it.
Any ideas what we should do with the "unsolved" topics ? Not that many at the moment but those might add up over time.
Should the remain sticky ?

Maybe keep them around for the 60 days, and if they remain unsolved after that, put them into an archive like the solved ones have.

I was also thinking we should perhaps have some sort of known issue/faq thread, where things that we've known about since day 1 are kept, but that new people might not know about. For example, that planeswalkers are actually enchantments, or that you can respond with planeswalker/equipment activations at instant speed on your turn.
