Positive feedback to encourge the devs
by mtgrares » 25 Feb 2011, 17:25
I've thought about this for awhile. People post comments to my blog about how good Forge is but I'm only the public relation guy and I wanted to make sure the real workers, the developers, see what people thing of your work.
This first one is from this week and is probably the most positive comment about Forge that I have every seen:

Hi there,
I know nothing about computer programming, I am not even a very good magic player but I do know that my kids, my Dad, and I love Forge! A game that appeals to three generations of players ranging in age from 75 down to 19 is doing well in my book! You and the team can be justly proud of your achievements. Good luck with the job hunting!
Cheers,
Thistlecat

Dude thank you so much for the time you have put into Forge. Even though it's not perfect and doesn't have every single card in the game of magic - it allows me to play a custom deck against the computer, which is a dream of mine. Please don't stop!!
Dude it's the best! I love it! There are a few cards I miss as I put in decks, like Turn to Mist and Flourishing Defenses, but I figure those are pretty difficult to code.

My favorite card to use in Forge is Relentless Rats!!! This is because I know I will never own enough of hem to make a rat deck. I have 6
Keep up the great work in Forge.
he fact that it does not have all the cards I use in decks is part of the challenge ... how to replace cards in decks with what is available in Forge. Who know you may find something better.

The real beauty of Forge to me lies in the ease and elegance of the card scripting. You can reproduce almost every card now via the AbilityFactory and the newly added Trigger system. We now have a mana pool for the human player. I just started following the project last fall and the progress has been incredible. Close to 6300 cards as of Jan 25. You really have to hand it to the devs. Incredibly bright bunch with a passion for the game.

It's a good program and I use it often, always getting the new version as soon as I find out it's been released. Good program, but I'd like to be able to play my own decks as well as decks that others have constructed.

I have tried all the other card games you have punted on your blog ... but have kept coming back to Forge. There is nothing like it. I will indeed keep on forging,

Also, I've been following MTG forge for as long as this site has been up. Love the work you guys have been doing.

Hey. Wanted to mention that Forge is wonderful. I'd love to *attempt* to port the GUI to Android OS, if you don't mind (I admit I probably will not finish it, but I'd like to attempt!)

This is without doubt the best incarnation of Forge to date. The UI is more responsive and the AI much better. Still some minor issues with certain cards but otherwise a magnanimous piece of software for us Magic-heads. Thanks guys@@@

Jace is a dream to play with as a human against AI in Quest-mode.
It makes it fairly easy to mill the AI which gives +100gold.

I applaud your work and that of the volunteers! I even feel a bit embarrassed enjoying the game so much and not contributing

Can't wait for the walking around. (Talking about Forge's Shandalar mode.) I only play the constructed part of Forge atm.
adding the Graphical parts to the quest mode will make it alot more appealing to me.
Keep up the awesome work!
Cheers

Forge, thanks for your program, I've been waiting for something like this since Spells of the Ancient.
Thanks for destroying my social life once again. Great job!!

Hi. Thanks for this update, I really enjoy Forge!
I'm writing my own Magic player and I'd like to have a look at what you did with the AI.

Actually I think that compared to Shandalar your AI plays just fine.
It sure manages to beat me... <:0(
And I like the idea of giving a little AI to each card.

Forge is still the best thing since sliced bread and burnt toast, whatever takes your fancy! Especially for those of us unable to play MODO. It really has come a long way and just keeps getting better. :)

In other threads I've criticized Forge. Here I will congratulate you on the astounding work.
Forge is ambitious, and very, very well designed code wise. I can't even start to tackle the problems and issues (or design) of trying to implement a system that understands the rules of magic. But Forge doesn't end there. It creates AI.
AI?!!
Something that doesn't just understand the rules, but interprets them, and plays a great game too. AI is something that is something of a holy grail of programming. And it has beaten me many times when we play the exact same deck.
Kudos to the team on a job well done! Implementing such a huge base of the cards, is truly amazing.
