Thanks.

One slight problem .. am currently downloading LQ, (~2250/7000), but again, no cards show up in the folder. Did I miss something? Am I looking in the wrong folder? Is it in the virtual store, or in documents?

One other question .. several java or script errors popped up on starting the program. Could these have prevented downloading properly? Thanks.

If you launch forge by double clicking on the "run-forge.jar" file you will get errors. This could lead to the problems that you have noticed.

The readme file found in the forge archive states:

In the past, some people noticed java heap space errors and lengthy pauses. The memory requirements for Forge have increased over time. The default setting on your computer for the java heap space may not be enough to prevent the above problems.

The technically proficient can launch the forge jar with an argument from the CLI. The argument "-Xmx512m" may work for computers with 1 Gig of memory. Computers with 2 Gigs or more of memory should be able to use "-Xmx1024m" as an argument.

We have created several scripts that will launch the Forge jar with "-Xmx1024m" as an argument. People using Windows OS should double click the "forge.exe" file. People using Apple's Mac OS X should double click the "forge.command" file. People using one of the other *nix OS should double click the "forge.sh" file.

The script file must be located in the same folder as the "run-forge.jar" file and the "run-forge.jar" file name can not be changed. Otherwise, the scripts will not work.

If you have a low end machine you may find that the scripts above will prevent java heap space errors but will find that forge still runs very slowly at times.

In this case you can try the following. Remove the background jpg picture from /res/images/ui/ folder. You can try using LQ pictures rather than the high quality pictures. Or you can try removing all of the jpg pictures from the pics folder. You can also try using the old style battlefield UI rather than the newer battlefield UI.

We have changed the archiving format to ".tar.bz2" since this may help to store the file permissions for the Mac OS X launcher. The Windows launcher in this version does not require you to rename the forge JAR file to work properly. Please keep the forge JAR file name set to "run-forge.jar".

In the {forge_folder}/res/pics folder do you have several folders? The LQ set pics go into folders.

Two error messages appear on startup.
1. The first for lack of permission to forge.log. I tried changing permissions just by changing file properties, but I still recieve the same message.
2. The second message I am less sure of. Possibly it all has something to do with the anti-virus. But wouldn't disabling it defeat the purpose, if it's necessary to be online to download?

In the {forge_folder}/res/pics folder do you have several folders? The LQ set pics go into folders.
I don't have any subfolders in the res\pics\ apart from the default \icons and \tokens. Nothing was downloaded.

Anyway, I have the sets, most from previously, which I decided to use eventually instead of the downloader. Renaming the cards was a chore, but became easier after testing, and after finding a batch utility.

The one trouble I have with these is that I'd like to put them on a separate hard drive, or, minimally, in separate subfolders, to better organise them. Currently, I had to put them all (all 11000 or however many) directly in the \res\pics\ folder.

When I looked at the \res\pics_link files,
(card-pictures_a.txt, etc)
and tried to modify the directories through mass-Search-Replace, Forge didn't seem to recognise them. I tried both \ and /s for the paths, but neither successfully.
(Also, even just placing them in subfolders in res\pics\[subfolders]\ didn't work).

The contents of <card-pictures_a.txt>
..
Regarding the [server] in
http://[server]/TE/Abandon%20Hope.full.jpg
and similar, is it possible to change the server in a single place, for all cards,
(to change it from <http://[server]/> to, for example, <D:\pics\>)
in a different config file? I was a little unclear on that.

I apologise for so many questions in so short a time. And for not knowing Python-scripting. Probably this should all be obvious.

Anyhow ..

Lack of privileges/premissions to the Forge folders would explain the forge.log error, the downloading of pictures failing to save and the folders not being created. What OS are you on?

The OS is Windows 7-64 Pro. Are any other specs required, or can I choose to say nothing, and remain fairly anonymous? :)

In Windows 7, the user privileges are rather wonky, even the administrator user can't do certain things.

What folder are you trying to run Forge from? A typical program doesn't actually have permission to write under C:\Program Files, even in its own folder. I think Windows 7 will redirect file-writing operations to another location under your profile folder, so the files may indeed be on your system somewhere. Do a search for a filename like "Shock.full.jpg".

Try running Forge from a subfolder of your My Documents.

No cards were found. I will try running from Documents.

Ran from Documents .. Thanks, that worked like a charm. All pictures appear to download.

Is it possible to separate card-pictures by set into separate folders? Just by looking at various config files, I couldn't figure out how to do so. I tried modifying the path in main.properties, but that also didn't seem to have any effect.

I also still don't understand what the forward slashes (/s) are for in the path-names in the pics_link files and in main.properties. They're needed for java, python, or swing?

With that so, how do I specify the right subdirectory for different sets in the various config files?

Also, how to use the 'import cards' feature properly? Just take a source on the hard drive, and then import it? In what directory do imported cards show up? Are they still all directly in the \res\pics\ dir?

Thanks.

If you downloaded the LQ-Set Pics, then they should've gone into their correct set-coded folders.

Java code uses forward-slashes, and the Java Runtime for Windows will translate to back-slashes.

The LQ-Set worked, and the LQ individual download. Ty very much.

Also, the HQ automated download seemed to half-work. It transmitted about 6000 cards or so.
There were three stages:
1. ~4000/6000 cards downloaded. Freezes, so close, then restart.
2. ~2000/2000 cards downloaded. Freezes, so close, then restart.
3. ~900 are listed as still available, but the bar only moves to 137/900 here, and no cards are downloaded. Freezes, so close, then restart.

Anyway, maybe I should be looking elsewhere instead of the direct download, since as you said, it was buggy. I sort of forget when I don't update in a while. Anyway, thanks again. Putting the program in Documents fixed everything, basically. I'll recommend it to everyone!

I've downloaded the full lq set pics (everything except for 2 downloaded) and they work great.

My issue was I was playing last night and created some squirrel tokens and they showed up without an image (just the black card). I have created other tokens that displayed with images so at least some are included in the lq set download. Should all the tokens have been included in the lq set download?

I can download and resize a token image to use but where should I put it after I rename it to g_1_1_squirrel.jpg?

You can get them here. There are topics scattered all over the Forge section of the forums that have token pictures

The token pics (LQ or HQ) ahould be placed in the /forge/res/pics/tokens/ folder. HQ token pics can be found here Tokens.

Here is a list of the file names for all of the tokens that I currently have in my local copy of forge:

The Treva, the Renewer card in the LQ set downloads seems to be in a foreign language.
