Opinions on creating project-specific Eclipse coding style?

i would like to create a project-specific eclipse preference to better align our code with Checkstyle. please comment if you have an opinion in either direction.

also, where do i find the settings for checkstyle? i know someone mentioned widening the line length a while ago.

Many of those CheckStyle errors were for lines longer than 80 characters. Dave changed this on the SVN before the project was moved to git.

I made a few simple CheckStyle fixes to CF_Auras and CF_Lands. But I did not bother with all of them.

actually, i wasn't referring to modifying individual files; but rather, creating a project-specific eclipse editor setting that (for example) never uses tabs to indent lines.

I was initially curious to see what sort of problems the CheckStyle report had found. Hand editing can be time consuming. I do not expect that people would invest too much time in addressing them.

Anything that could become a project-specific eclipse editor setting would help to save us some time and effort.

agreed and already dealth with, but not committed yet. curly braces are our friends.

i think this only applies to code when you select it and press Ctrl+I {rhymes with eye}. the curly will be on the same line as the if, unless the conditional expression spans more than one line, in which case it goes two or more lines below the 'i' in "if".

at first i made a bunch of changes to comply with checkstyle, but that created too many warnings. instead, i'm limiting it to things that won't add warnings.

also, default catch behavior is to {throw new RuntimeException(exn);} instead of printing the stack trace. the latter just isn't as flexible.

slight problem. one of the files that helps with this is set to automatically be ignored by git: .settings/org.eclipse.jdt.ui.prefs

1. could someone tell me why keeping track of changes to and sharing settings/org.eclipse.jdt.ui.prefs is a bad idea?
2 could someone glace over these differences and tell me if i went too far?
