Upload Card Pictures to Mediafire?

Postby mtgrares » 30 Dec 2011, 18:13

Will somebody upload their card pictures to a free server like mediafire. The maximum file size is 200 MB, so you will have to upload multiple files. I'm guessing that this is the easiest way to distribute the card pictures but feel free to post any other ideas. I'll also post these links on my blog and give credit where credit is due.

Thanks in advance,

I can upload them to my webserver, but isn't a torrent a better idea? (see viewtopic.php?f=26&t=6018, we already created one)

btw, there are two things I want to know:
1) why are there card pictures and set pictures? As the card pictures are a subset of the set pictures, they are redundant, aren't they?
2) I downloaded the HQ torrents; what is the best way to integrate them into the game?

1 - the two downloads are intended as an either/or download. Essentially the set images would be the preferred download for most people as it downloads a version of each card from each set it was printed in. The card images download is intended for people with lower download speeds and only downloads one version of each card, and these are all just dumped into the main pics folder instead of into sorted set folders.

2 - if you want to use the HQ images you need to rename all the files to remove capitailzation, hyphens and other punctuation, remove the ".full" and replace hyphens and spaces with underscores. Use free utilities like BulkRenamer for Windows and make sure that the set folders are named properly. From in-game you can also use the import folder button, but this will remove set information and put them all in the base pics folder. Hope that helps.

Edit: fixed broken quote.

additionally to the torrent, I uploaded the LQ set and card pictures and the WotC decks I found in separate archives:
http://mark.tvk.rwth-aachen.de/software/forge/
You will find more information on this page.

Providing the HQ set pictures is planned, if my server won't burn down and if I prepared the Magic Album Pictures torrent correctly.

well, the HQ set pack is there on my site, containing about 3GB of cards. Let's see what happens :-)
If new cards come out and forge misses them, I will try to find them and release patches; and as this is an open source project, you are encouraged to help me with this.

Note, that the HQ set produces slow downs (e.g. dealing 7 new cards needs two seconds more or so) and maybe java heap space errors occurr (worked for me so far without errors). The HQ pics are considered to be an unsupported feature by the developers.

The HQ pics can mostly remain named as they came from the slightlymagic pics team. There are inconsistencies with Aether and AEther, plus a few others, but the LQ set pics hosted on cardforge.org are just down-sampled from the HQ archives.

what do you mean? I named the HQ files like they are in my LQ folder. I found many inconsistencies like with Aether/AEther and changed the names like forge demanded until it told me, all pics were downloaded.

Keep in mind that as cards are added to Forge, other inconsistent pics will pop up from time to time. If you check the Java console while the download popup is working, it will list all the cards it can't find and intends to download.

I downloaded the torrent, and copied the new Res folder contents into my active copy of Forge (the new snapshot). I've noticed a graphics glitch in a lot of the new set pictures (I'd always played without the set pictures before now).

I'm attaching a screenshot to show what I mean - a lot of the cards come up with badly distorted colours. In this screenshot, Phyrexian Rager and Prophetic Prism are examples.

I've found a pile of others, too many to list here but I can give more examples if it would help. They seem to all be in set subfolders, with ".full" in the filenames.

I've found that the distorted pics tend to be 212x300 pixels. If I resize them to 280x285, like most of my pics, they look fine. This happened to my LQ pics before, with a bunch of Portal: Three Kingdoms cards. Same issue (dimensions), same fix worked.

My desktop is set to 1440x900, in case that matters. Any ideas, other than tracking these down and resizing them on a case-by-case basis? I could automate that process somewhat by searching for images of the offending dimensions then doing a batch resize, but if there's a simpler fix I'm not seeing, then I'm all for it.

The pictures were downloaded by forge. I thought that this is the foil effect and disabled it; I could be wrong though. At least in my pics folder all versions of Phyrexian Rager look normally.

Ahh, I forgot about foiling, because I usually turn it off. I'll turn it off and see if that fixes it.

Nope, foiling wasn't the culprit. Turning foiling off makes no difference, and it's always the same cards that have the problem. When I open the .jpgs that look weird in Forge in an image viewer, they look fine. It's evidently not the original image that's distorted, but a display issue within Forge.

Not necessarily. That type of graphics glitch is normally caused by an incompatible colour profile. Windows (and other operating systems) have access to the profiles so can preview it properly.

you could try to backup and resave the image in a windows program, then try whether this rewritten image has the same problems

where's the "trust me, that will work!" switch for the compiler?
