How to play commander on BA

Postby FranAvalon » 15 Jun 2011, 13:24

Starting on release 1.29.1, BA supports commander format. Here is a few steps to play it.

How to play commander

1.- Your deck need a special card that you can find on deckbuilder called "Commander". Add it to your deck
2.- Select your commander and your deck according Commander rules.
3.- In this momment you will get a deck with 101 cards, a hundred from the deck plus "commander" card. Save it.
4.- Open the deck using a text editor as notepad or something similar so. At the end of the file add this line: #STARTEMBLEMS and press enter to a new line.
5.- look for your commander on the deck list, cut it and paste on the botton of the text file.
6.- To set the player life to 40 write this line on the top of the deck file: #LIFE 40
7.- Save the file.
8.- Now you can just start a regular game using your commander deck. You will notice that commander mulligan is implemented. If you want keep your hand just press the "OK" button or click on X to close the window. Commander mulligan works as it is defined on Commander rules.
9.- to cast your commander just add neccesary mana to your mana pool and you will found on "action window" an option to cast it.

NOTE: Undo option over basic lands are dissabled when you play commander.

I made a commander deck (which, by the way, should contain 99 cards +1 commander card, not 100 +1) and I want to play against the computer giving it the same deck. The app crashes after I press OK. Does the AI know to play 100 card decks or just constructed 60?

I've found the problem. It is a weird interaction between its trigger and the command zone. We must think how to fix it.

Thx for reporting it :)

You are welcome. So the problem is caused by Progenitus itself? Hmmm, this means I can't make any other Commander deck with Proggy?

Yeah. Progenitus was the guilty :D

I think that it is fixed. Please try it. I attach a new Conflux dll. Just overwrite the old one :)

I noticed another problem. At the beginning of the game, I can see Progenitus in my commander zone. However, when I have enough mana to cast it, there is no commander card in the commander zone anymore. Same thing happens to computer player.

It seems like the commander card is shuffled in the deck after the first turn.

Is there a way to fix this? I find BotArena quite good for testing my Commander decks and I'd really appreciate it if you could fix this :)
