by geogus » 19 Jun 2012, 13:13
Hi Guys
Im getting to know magic better and a friend of mine advised me to use forge.
I downloaded the pictures in the button "download lq card pictures", and left the Pc working during the night, since it was a huge dl.
However, after it finished the game doesnt load the cards pics. Actualy i cant even find the folder where the downloaded pics were save.
I re instaled forge ans tried the same above, but i dint work.
My friend provided me with a copy of his pics folder, i pasted it when i think was the correct place, but nothing happend.
I really dont care about having the top quality pics, i just want to get this forge working to get to know it better. But its hard with only text information.
Besides that, forge seems to be working fine.
I aprreciatte any help.
Sorry sbout poor english

Without more information, it sounds to me like he might have ran the program from within the archive without extracting it first. This would put the files in a temporary directory that would be wiped when the program was exited. If that's the case, make sure you extract the archive first, then run the appropriate file so the files save within the Forge directory structure.

from the CHANGES.txt file wrote:We have changed the archival format used for the Forge distributions from ".zip" to ".tar.bz2". There are utilities for Windows, Mac OS and the various *nix's that can be used to decompress these ".tar.bz2" archives. We recommend that you decompress the Forge archive into a new and unused folder.
Some people use the Windows application 7zip. This utility can be found at http://www.7-zip.org/download.html. Mac users can double click on the archive and the application Archive Utility will launch and extract the archive. Mac users do not need to download a separate utility.

As long as i know, WinRar is able to descompress .tar files.
I' ve just checked, i've descompressed forge with winRar, and its an. .tar file.
As i said, i cant find where the downloaded pictures were save by forge.

What directory did you extract forge to? Windows 7 can be very annoying about letting programs write to directories in the \program files\ folder.

Try downloading the 7zip utility and then decompress the forge archive using 7zip.
I suspect that WinRar is not decompressing the ".tar" and the ".bz2" aspects of the archive at the same time.
I think that people using the Windows OS are using the 7zip utility rather than the WinRar utility to decompress the forge archive.

I use winRar, and it works just fine. I wonder if he's not extracted the picture archives or if Forge is somewhere where Windows isn't going to let it play well with others.

i downloaded forge, im using win7 i unrar the forge in to my documents, i started downloading the pics, i canceled because i had some other stuff to do, but i seen where it was saving the pics in the res/pics folder that was with forge when i extracted it, the only thing i didn't like but i am dealing with it, is when i extracted the forge files it extracted them with all my other stuff into my documents instead of having it's on folder, but it's ok, i could just create one and redo it, but it's working so i'm not gonna mess with it lol, i'd also like to add that when i canceled the download and went into forge the pics i had managed to download are showing in the program. I also noticed when I canceled download and came back later it let me start from where i left off.
