Describe the Bug:
Chord of Calling now asks you to pay for X up front before you get the menu to choose to pay with convoke or regular mana.
The mana you spend in the fist X prompt is not used by the spell. If you leave the first prompt at zero and play the card as normal, it works from there on. Reminds me of an old bug where Chalice of the Void prompted you twice for X.
See save file with 3 green creatures and 2 lands. Try to pay for the spell with GGG convoke and X = 2 to search a 2 CMC creature.
New as of BNG Feb 2014.

The most recent substantive change (i.e., not formatting or an AI value update) I can find to either the card's function or its csv rows was for the May 2012 patch. If it didn't previously charge X during normal casting and again during target selection like it does now, I have no idea why not.

Yeah it was definitely working. The deck I was playing a lot is just chocked full of buggy cards but Chord of Calling was not one of them.
It also has: Ancient Stirrings, Eye of Ugin, Primeval Titan, Glimmerpost, and Wall of Roots, and the annihilating Eldrazi which all seem to be working better than ever.

Caused by fixing X-cost artifacts (they previously had to be manually charged during target selection, and most still do that) - Chord of Calling's cost modifier doesn't say to pay nothing, it says to pay 3 less green mana than is printed on the card.

Withdrew the patch in commit cb605fa until the whole function can be moved into C. Astral Cornucopia 's a bit less elegant, but I can live with that; but this will rebreak Edgewalker + Mikaeus, the Lunarch, too. Lesser of evils.

HarlequinCasts please remember to fill the "reason for editing this post" in the bottom of the editing page with a small description "fixed bug" or "confirmed bug" or whatever suits you BUT please do it so we all know who edited the post and the time that it was edited.

Yeah this was a weird case because Korath lightning fast responded with a fix before anyone else could confirm it. Seemed weird to wait for a "confirmed" before changing it to fixed

If I remember correctly, I actually confirmed that one, he just edited the post later and forgot to include a reason.
