Multiplayer Dueling

  • First of all backup your Magic folder!
  • Now install Mok's unofficial Manalink Update[1]
  • Install it over your existing Magic installation ("XY:\...\Magic the Gathering\Program\")
  • After that you need to extract Mok's [2] and Jatill's [3] latest Manalink 2.0 update to "XY:\...\Magic the Gathering\Program\" again (when you are prompted to overwrite existing files click "Yes to all").
  • Also get the latest graphic update and extract the archive (CardArtNew_.rar, remove the "_") to "XY:/Your Game Directory/Magic The Gathering/Program/CardArtNew" (when you are prompted to overwrite existing files click "Yes to all").
  • Start "Magic.exe". You'll now notice that your "Manalink.exe" is active because there's a jewel-like icon in the corner ("gem"). If not, something went wrong while installing the Multiplayer feature.
  • Right-click on the "gem". Click on "Preferences" --> "Options". "Use AutoStart", "Show System Messages" should be enabled; "Use Autoconnect" should be disabled. Click "Apply". Right-click on the "gem" and choose "Exit". Close "Magic.exe".
  • Navigate to your "XY:\...\Magic the Gathering\Program\" directory. Open the "Manalink.ini" with the (windows) editor and you will see something like this:
   [Manalink]
   Server=sture.dyndns.org
   Port=27500
   AutoHost=0

"Server"= Ip of the host (in order to play online, you can check your current ip at www.whatismyip.com or simply use services like dyndns.org. In your LAN use fixed Ip's (e.g. 192.168.0.*). "Port"= choose a port here (same port for both machines!). It should be forwarded in your (software-)firewall(-s). Set "AutoHost" to "0".

  • Make your changes in your "Manalink.ini". Close and Save "Manalink.ini"
  • Now run your "Magic.exe" again. Right-click on the "gem" and choose "Open". In the "Choose a connection type:"-tab, choose Internet (TCP/IP) and click "Connect". Choose "Host". Now there has to appear a message on the top of the screen "Screen name "your Player Name" has automatically been created on your local area network." In the Status-window of Manalink there should be your "Player Name" and the "Status" should be "Available". In the "gem" there should be the word "NET" now.
  • "Join" the host by entering its IP. After the two players appear in the status window (perhaps you have to push the "Refresh" button to see the other player) one of you must select the other's name from the list and click the "Invite" button (the other one should just wait.)
  • Now the challenge goes to your opponent (the one who waited), who must double-click on the invitation in the Message window, then click the "Accept" button.
  • When you receive notice of the acceptance, you should select a deck to use in the duel (if you haven't already). The two of you are now registered as opponents.
  • Both players now have to click on "Duel Opponent" in the Magic main menu.
  • Now set the Match Parameters for the duel. Click on "Send Parameters" to transmit the parameters to

your opponent (you can still change your deck, but not for long.)

  • Your opponent either clicks "Agree" to accept your parameters or "Disagree" to reject them.

If he disagrees you will have to keep sending new parameters until you come to an agreement.

  • As soon as the parameters are accepted, the match begins with the selected decks.
