Missing files that aren't missing
by Everalei » 01 Jun 2020, 00:14
Hi everyone!
I'm a newbie here, but I've been playing this game for quite a while. Anyway, I just downloaded the "Program" and the "Cumulative Folder", and put them in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Magic\Program" according to the instructions I found here. The game starts correctly, and even the duels are working.
The problem is with the Deck Builder. When I click it, the game crashes and shows the message "Couldn't find Cards.dat, DBInfo.dat or Rarity.dat", but these files are in the folder.
I've tried changing the folder, the folder name, the compatibility mode, but nothing seems to work.
Any ideas?

Take your install out of Program Files (so something like C:/Magic/Program). Please let me know if this works and if it does I'll update the instructions.
The latest images for Manalink will be here.
The latest Manalink installation directory will be here. Well, not quite, anymore. Check the latest patches.

Thanks for the quick response.drool66 wrote:Take your install out of Program Files (so something like C:/Magic/Program). Please let me know if this works and if it does I'll update the instructions.
Unfortunately it didn't work. I'm still getting the same error and message.

Is the Deck builder, deck.exe also in your program folder where cards.dat and the rest are? Does this happen both if you click deck.exe directly and from magic menu?

1. Yes, Deck.exe is in the same folder where the "missing" files are.Aswan jaguar wrote:Is the Deck builder, deck.exe also in your program folder where cards.dat and the rest are? Does this happen both if you click deck.exe directly and from magic menu?
2. Yes, the same error occurs when I click Deck.exe directly from the Magic folder.

Try with this deck.exe in case it got corrupted.
If this doesn't work please make a list of the contents of your main "program" folder file (or whatever you have named it) and the address you have installed it.

Are your duels working and do you have pictures on cards?
Also what's the size of each of the three "missing files" ?
I see couple of files from you trying to fix this that are not needed but they don't affect deck.exe.

1. Yes, duels are working and all cards have pictures (well, at least all the cards I've seen so far).Aswan jaguar wrote:Are your duels working and do you have pictures on cards?

2. Sizes: Cards.dat: 10.145kb, DBInfo.dat: 320kb, Rarity.dat: 1.544kb.
About the "I see couple of files from you trying to fix this that are not needed but they don't affect deck.exe." part: I didn't add or changed anything other than merging the two CardArtManalink folders.

You have these three files that are not in patch drool66 has uploaded:
"C:\Magic\Program\cardC.dat"
"C:\Magic\Program\cards.dat.bak"
"C:\Magic\Program\DBinfo (1).dat"
EDIT: Also you seem not to have the latest update as your files are smaller than latest. Make a fresh installation not under program files this time.
You got the update from here:
viewtopic.php?f=85&t=29422#p241981 ?

It worked! Thank you very much!
Maybe there could be a single file already updated and patched, so noobs like me wouldn't bother you with such problems.
PS: I had to remove the link because of the "Your post looks too spamy for a new user, please remove off-site URLs" issue.
