MRD Tournament - Game commentary/Discussion
by Nicdanger » 04 Nov 2010, 13:26
How it will work:
8 people, 1 forum thread, 1 Google Docs spreadsheet, and Manalink 2.0 of course. If you're unfamiliar with a rotisserie draft check out this link.
- We draft 60 cards each via forum posts, and track them with a Google Docs spreadsheet. If possible we can arrange a time to have everyone online and knock out a good chunk of the draft, we shall see!
- 60 card minimum deck size, no sideboards (basic lands can be added in any number).
- Any cards in Manalink with the exception of ante cards, wishes, and ring of maruf are available (I think).
- Once all the cards are drafted we will set a deadline for deck construction and begin testing just like a normal tournament.
Drafting Order:
1. Shantak
2. Jatill
3. Aww1979
4. JuzamJedi
5. Nicdanger
6. Monopoman
7. Cognis
8. Grinnin?
THE DOWN LOW:
1. The first 6 rounds will be single picks. At that point we will begin drafting 3 cards per turn (after Shantaks 6th pick, he will make his 7-9 picks and so on).
2. Please check this thread as often as possible, especially when you know you're turn is coming up. To draft, simply make a new reply to this thread with the card you're drafting. A quick comment like "Hey Nicdanger, you're up next!" would be helpful as well.
3. Picks will be recorded in this Google Docs spreadsheet. Everyone will beable to view the spreadsheet and I would like to give Jatill access to edit it just in case I'm kidnapped by several beautiful women (or something)!
4. All cards in Manalink at the time we begin drafting are available, new cards added to Manalink during the draft will not be. Living/Burning/Cunning Wish, Ring of Maruf, and all ante cards are also banned for this tournament!
I think that covers everything, drafting might be a bit slow at first but hopefully we get into a good rhythm after a few rounds. If there are no objections or things I need to add, Shantak is up first!
EDIT: With drafting done I'd like to use this thread for any discussion related to the tournament and keep all game commentary here. Due to the number of games and complicated scoring I'm going to make a second thread to track wins/loses and points for each deck.

Maybe we could write down about 5-10 cards we would like to draft and if they are available when our turn comes we take the top from our list. We could post them here or send them to Nicdanger who is holding the tournament.

I was thinking something long those lines, too. Maybe we could draft 3 cards at a time instead of 1, with the proviso that none are from the same set.Cognis wrote:Maybe we could write down about 5-10 cards we would like to draft and if they are available when our turn comes we take the top from our list. Those are good ideas, but we should probably do 1 card per round to begin with. I'd hate to see Ancestral Recall, Force of Will, and Tinker go in the first pick!

I'll confirm my interest. Drafting three instead ofone each round would speed up things, but even if we limit it to different sets, I think it will give significant edge to those drafting first. Maybe the first three rounds could be draft 1 card and after that draft 3?

I'll play. I've never done this format before, though, but I did read the link about it.

I would be interested in this format.

I was thinking 5 rounds of single drafting, that should allow a lot of the power cards to get spread out and for everyone to figure out what we're all drafting. Then jump up to 3, and possibly more later if we want to.I'll confirm my interest. Drafting three instead ofone each round would speed up things, but even if we limit it to different sets, I think it will give significant edge to those drafting first. Maybe the first three rounds could be draft 1 card and after that draft 3?
Waiting on JuzamJedi to confirm and 1 more drafter to sign up!

Yes, I am still interested in doing the rotisserie draft. We definitely don't want to allow 3 picks at 1 time; if I draft first I'm pretty much going to win the draft.
I'm going to suggest we keep the ban on wishes for this tournament. It wouldn't be good if I could play 2x Ancestral Recall in my deck.

Is that one spot still open? I've been meaning to try these tournaments for a while and would love to try a draft similar to that article.
I'm also in EST.

The first pick is the hardest, or that's the way I'm feeling right now.
Plenty of choices, but at least it's hard to go wrong with Ancestral Recall.
Grinnin, you're up next.

So wishes and ring of maruf are excluded right?

I knew I forgot something, thanks!
No wishes, ring of maruf, or ante cards!
