DOTP French Draft

Contents

Introduction

French Draft is a new game mode for DOTP. It is derived from Rivieira Draft and adapted to fit the game engine.

Features

This game mode intends to provide a new way of playing Magic: The Gathering with the following features :

  • In-Game drafting.
  • Flexible mana control.
  • Every new game propose a different selection of cards to draft from.

Rules : Deck content

In French Draft, players each have a library consisting of the following :

  • 90 cards of 3 different colours (30 cards of each colour).
  • 15 artifacts.
  • No basic lands.
  • Each card is limited to 1 per library.
  • A French Draft card.

Rules : Drafting first hand

A player may choose to mulligan as normal, the number of cards in his/her hand before the first hand draft is irrelevant. Before starting playing the game, each player draw cards until he/she has a hand of exactly 14 cards. When this is done, each player must remove from the game cards in his/her hand until he/she is back to 7 cards.

Rules : Drafting library

When the previous phase has been completed, cards are removed from the player's libraries until it contains exactly 40 cards. As the original size of the library is 105 and 14 cards have already been drawn/removed, this means that 51 cards will not be seeing play (this means it's unlikely to draft the same cards from a game to another one). When this is done, the game starts as normal.

Rules : Land Trading

At the beginning of his/her main phase, a player MAY 'trade' a card from his/her hand to put a basic land into play. 'trading' means that the player will choose a card from his/her hand and remove it from the game. A basic land of the corresponding card's colour is then put into play.

  • For example, if a player 'trades' an Akroma, Angel of Wrath, he/she gets a plain.
  • Another example, if a player 'trades' an unsummon, he/she gets an island.
  • Multicoloured or Colourless cards will be 'traded' for a random basic land.

Misc

It is recommended that every player (AI or not) playing the same game each plays a draft pack.
