inability to untap lands that were tapped by mistake
by Spatzi » 08 Oct 2012, 19:34
I find it amazing that there is no way to untap your land should you make a mistake when tapping it before highlighting a spell. It is just counter intuitive to play a spell first and THEN tap your mana, and I do this all the time. This leads me to quitting the game and starting over many times, right in the middle of an interesting game. You can cancel a spell, but how about the simple function of being able to untap your land and get the mana back? Any solutions to this problem? I am used to botarena, where you can tap all the lands you want, but untap them as well.
So far this is my only small issue with the program.

While it may be unintuitive for you, that's actually how Magic rules claim you should do it. http://wiki.mtgsalvation.com/article/Casting_SpellsSpatzi wrote:I find it amazing that there is no way to untap your land should you make a mistake when tapping it before highlighting a spell. If you are in the middle of casting a spell, and want to cancel we can keep track of that and undo (most of) it. Currently, we don't have the capability to undo single actions (even if it's just tapping a land for mana outside of playin a spell/ability), due to the infrastructure of Forge.
BotArena is structured for a Minimax AI which requires undoable game state. Forge currently does not have such structure, so we only have limited Undo capabilities. There has been some progress in this area, but it's probably still some ways out.

Thanks. I seem to have always played by tapping first, and then announcing the spell. I'm sure I will get used to doing it the proper way eventually!
