This one is nasty. Locks the game completely and I need control/alt/delete to shut forge down.

Spatzi, please take a look at what the crash is actually saying. This is the same one you just reported three times in a row. Also, please gave any information you have about what actually happened instead of just saying "There's a crash and here's what I got" since the crash above isn't very helpful for resolving that.

Are the photos not helping? What do you prefer? Screenshot or crash report? I thought what I was doing to be more easily explained showing a screenshot of what I was doing at the time of the crash instead of explaining it all, "i have a mtn, 2 swamps, it is 3rd turn, attacking with .... Etc"

I can take a closer look at the crash reports. I thought they were all different because they happened at different times in different situations. If they are different, where would the difference be? In the first few lines of the crash? If I have to scan every single-line comparing them it is going to take forever. I have no idea about these things.

Are you seeing the entire screenshot? I added the entire picture but it seems to be cut in half.

You could begin with the trigger which is showed. Apparently it is red - So, what kind of trigger was it? Maybe thats the problem here?

Postby Diogenes » 17 Oct 2012, 14:15

Hey guys, I haven't been testing or posting recently due to moving, but I've been following development and I have to say I'm really excited - awesome progress the last few weeks! Anyway, I saw these tonight on the latest Snapshot (that thread seems to have more important things going on):

Grafted Exoskeleton's ability "Whenever Grafted Exoskeleton becomes unattached from a permanent, sacrifice that permanent" triggers when you attach it to another creature you control, but not when it's destroyed (I had to check the rulings, but it looks like it should. Amusingly, you can sac your only creature by re-attaching Grafted Exoskeleton to it.)

The Storm ability is not using the Storm counter correctly. The triggered ability on the stack checks the counter as it resolves instead of as it's played, which means instants cast after the original card will create copies (for instance, if a Brain Freeze is cast as the first spell of the turn, and is countered by Counterspell, the original copy of Brain Freeze will be removed from the stack but the Storm trigger will resolve and copy the spell once. In this case, the Storm trigger should resolve but make no copies.) I posted this last beta, but it was late in the cycle - sorry if it's already on the radar.

That is shown in the screenshot above. The red trigger on the left shows ' 1. '

Also, how do I condense these crash reports with the proper tags? ... It is okay. Will use spoiler tags.

Hey Spatzi, you're doing the crash dumps correctly with the spoiler tags. I think people just want to know what you were doing to get these errors - since the event on the stack is not informative, you'd need to actually tell us what you or the AI were playing, what it was targeting, etc.

edit: It wasn't Fireball by any chance, was it?

I wasn't referring to the photos, I was referring to the three before that that just have the TargetingOverlay as the first line of the crash. Just take a quick look at the top few lines:

Code: Select all
Detailed error trace:
java.lang.NullPointerException
at forge.gui.match.TargetingOverlay$OverlayPanel.paintComponent(TargetingOverlay.java:139)
The last line I quoted above is the important one, each of the three in a row all have that same exact info.

I think a link to a picture would probably be better than an embedded screenshot for those, since I can only see like.. 1/3rd of the battlefield, which isn't very helpful. For these they also all have the same crash "java.lang.ArithmeticException: / by zero"
which is due to the AI improperly playing Fireball and I believe has already been fixed for the next beta.

Huh. In that case, that's a separate bug - currently, the "becomes unattached" trigger does go off if you equip Grafted Exoskeleton to the creature on which it's already equipped. Will update with results from Grafted Wargear.

edit: as expected, same results on both counts (re-equipping triggers unattach condition, disenchanting does not.)

edit 2: Fortunately, it looks like while the "unattach" event happens when you re-equip the Grafted cards, the de-equipping and re-equipping are otherwise part of the same action for all equipment, and there is no non-equipped window where state-based checks would occur. For instance, a creature with normally lethal damage marked on it won't die if you re-equip something that's giving it a P/T bonus. These might be the only two cards this issue affects.

okay, will link photos in future.

Drudge Skeletons and Merfolk of the Pearl Trident attack. (both 1/1) Wall of Bone is the only blocker and it keeps blocking the skeletons even though I have enough mana to regenerate it. It should take out the merfolk first. Four times in a row I attacked and the wall keeps blocking the skeletons.

I blocked 4/4 Sengir Vampire with my Hypnotic Specter enchanted with Holy Strength. (3/4) Then I played Death Ward to regenerate the specter. Why does the Specter tap after this? He's blocking. He shouldn't be tapping. The Specter does eventually untap, but only at the start of my turn.
