the Great Dragon Rebellion

Postby GandoTheBard » 22 Mar 2009, 23:18

Back in the mists of time before mankind gained supremacy, dragons ruled the earth. Sadly they didn't retain control and soon became thralls to the various machinations of lesser but more fecund races. Now the remaining few legendary dragons of yesteryear have banded together under the banner of a new rebel conspiracy, uniting with kith and humans to overthrow the last iron grip of oppressors keeping them from freedom. I present to you:

Dragon Rebels (sadly without Linn-Sivvi, Defiant Hero)
Code: Select all
64 Total Cards

31 Creatures
-------------
1x Aven Riftwatcher
3x Defiant Falcon
2x Eternal Witness
1x Flametongue Kavu
1x Highway Robber
1x Jedit Ojanen of Efrava
1x Jugan, the Rising Star
1x Keiga, the Tide Star
1x Kokusho, the Evening Star
1x Man-o'-War
1x Mirri, Cat Warrior
1x Nath of the Gilt-Leaf
1x Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind
2x Order of Whiteclay
1x Oros, the Avenger
3x Ramosian Captain
2x Ramosian Commander
2x Ramosian Sky Marshal
1x Rorix Bladewing
1x Tarox Bladewing
1x Tolsimir Wolfblood
1x Treva, the Renewer
1x Urborg Syphon-Mage

13 Spells
----------
2x Belbe's Portal
2x Conspiracy
1x Elspeth, Knight-Errant
2x Enlightened Tutor
1x Liliana Vess
1x Mox Emerald
1x Mox Jet
1x Mox Pearl
1x Mox Ruby
1x Mox Sapphire

20 Land
--------
4x Arcane Sanctum
4x Crumbling Necropolis
4x Godless Shrine
4x Scrubland
4x Volcanic Island
For some reason when I was making this deck I thought Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind could fetch other dragons (must be thinking of another dragon of similar colors?). Anyway thats what inspired this deck. However Belbe's portal kept the idea alive. This deck is so powerful Im not sure there is an AI deck that can beat it. On the other hand it might turn out to be a decent AI deck itself...if all the broken cards get fixed.

In which format did you try? Constructed format or the renamed copy in the quest mode?

Hmmm is this even the right thread for this? I mean this isn't chris's angel-hammer deck post lol.

I mean that I could not beat chris' deck with this one. Just letting you know there is at least one AI deck that holds it's own against this one.

Yes it is a fun deck (nevermind the boilerplate under the deck...thats just the sales pitch though of the many AI decks out there I found none that would win with me playing this...on the other hand I cheat by knowing the deck really well. :p). And requires some skill to play it even agaisnt the AI. :) Im not surprised a directdamage/fast beats deck wins out against slow rebels lol. Did you try reversing it and giving this deck to the AI and playing the Hammer/Angels deck? Did you try playing the AI without landstacking? Im curious what the results will be. Did you have fun playing with it? :)

It's fun when you can get to the meat of the deck, but in general it is too slow.

I have to say, this is one of the stranger decks I've played. The mana is all over the place, and cards don't seem to fit,

BUT

I like it. It's something different, it makes you use cards for all sorts of different things. It's cool. It's not perfect, but hey, who is :D

Erm, I keep running into a small problem: you have 5 cards that cost (colorless) {G} {G}( or (colorless) {G} {G} {G}) to play, and only one card in the entire deck that you can use for mana. Now I understand you'd get Jugan out via portal, but the others...?
O forest, hold thy wand'ring son
Though fears assail the door.
O foliage, cloak thy ravaged one
In vestments cut for war.

The idea is to get Conspiracy into play and have rebels out that can fetch up the chain until you can get the nonrebels out as rebels. Portal is just another way to do it in case your chain is broken. Anyway Conspiracy is the key. This is based on an old deck called (r)Evolutionary Conspiracy which I made while Mercadian Masques was still around.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. Yep it needs work. Haven't played with it much since I posted it as MTG Forge has been on the back burner. It probably needs birds and or darksteel ingots. The duals could be a little more consistant as well. Keep in mind as I said in the above post...alot of the one ofs are tools to be fetched with the rebel chain. The Portals are there if you draw a handful of nonrebel cards, otherwise try getting the conspiracy into play.
