Magic 2014: Deleting Modded Decks from Directories

Postby albertfromsd » 27 Aug 2013, 08:16

Hi guys, I just recently downloaded a bunch of decks from firemind and a few others, and those decks came in a package deal in the form of .wad files.

each .wad file contained art, other programming, and a whole bunch of decks.

i am getting to the point where i dont want to play with a bunch of the decks, but the game is starting to run really slow because of the excessive decks.

how can i delete specific decks from these directory wad files?

If the modders put the decks in separate WAD files (as I do), delete the WAD files corresponding to the decks that you don't want. If not, you can unpack each WAD file and delete the files inside the DECKS sub-directory corresponding to the decks that you don't want, then repack each WAD.

How many decks do you have on DotP 2014 to make it run slow? I have installed a bit more than a hundred (may delete some as I play them and find they are similar theme) but my game is still running good.

I have however don't install all decks now as a) I don't necessarily want to play them and b) it becomes harder to find the deck you want to play with if you have to scroll through lots and lots of decks.

ive been playing with about 40-50. trying to trim it down to about 30 or less.

there may be another reason why my game is running slow, bc the game is only running a tiny bit faster after i deleted about 25 decks.

and thanks for the gibbed tools link

Hi and sorry for pushing such an old thread, but i had an issue with DLCs that is somewhat related to this.

Over the last 2 days i tried integrating all those DLCs i found here on the forum and struggled quite a bit in the process...

The first problem i encountered was that the game crashed after copying the DLC and Deck wads and i couldnt figure out why. Also after searching for solutions or posts from users with similar problems i didn't find anything besides an advise to install one DLC at a time and testing them immediately to rule out damaged wads.

After trying this method, the first few DLCs worked OK until one
(MTG 2010 --> 2014 DLC) crashed the game again. i removed it and tried another one but the game kept crashing with every new DLC i tried to add.

So i browsed through the forum again, also reading threads that seemed to have no relation to my problem when i stumbled over one particular sidenote sentence that said "btw, dotp 2014 can only handle a limited quantity of decks".

Realizing, that this could be the reason for crashing the game i moved a bunch of deck packs outside the magic folder and the game started without problems again.

This issue should be put in a warning/disclaimer of the various DLCs imho, because i don't think that this is common knowledge especially with new users. When i read the different DLC threads and installation guides, every one of them simply stated "put wad files into DotP folder and you are done". Hadn't i accidentally found the mentioned statement, i would have never even imagined what really caused the crashes.

ALso, if anyone reading this does know the exact quantity of displayable decks, it would be kind of you to tell me, so i don't have to spend hours of testing/figuring out...

I only know that the game works fine with 135 decks, because i counted them at some point, but i would like to max it (yeah i'm a hoarder ^^), so i need a confirmed definite number.

Thanks

Whenever I dl a DLC I copy the original game directory and put the wads into the copy. If the DLC does not work or if you don't want it anymore, just delete the copy. And no worries about deck counts either.

As long as i JUST put the DLC wads inside my magic folder, everything works fine... the trouble starts when i add a certain amount of Data_Deck wads. it doesnt matter which ones, at a certain point the game won't start anymore (loading screen and then exception error).

so there has to be a maximum deck number
