Random (color) Decks questions
by bevryde » 10 Aug 2014, 21:08
Hi,
I have questions about random decks. Do you have answers? I am in constructed mode.
1. "Random decks" - There is a) "random user deck". Does that mean it chooses a random deck from userdata\decks\constructed\? Is there a way I can see which deck it chose? b) "random generated deck" - is that a complete (but I think responsible) random deck from the entire cardpool?
2. "Random color decks". What are "random 1-3" exactly? EDIT: Ah I see. If I choose random 1 and random 2 I get a 2-colored deck. *Can* it also result in a 1-colored deck, if rnd1 and rnd2 both e.g. are red? This would be good IMO.
3. "Random theme decks". Are they randomly generated? E.g. I chose Multicolor BG, but I'm under the impression, it always uses the same cards... Are they fixed decks?
Thank you!

Maybe someone can answer #1, since this was added pretty recently. I would guess Generated Deck would randomly pick a generated deck type (Random Color Deck or Random Theme Deck) and return that deck. Random User deck would probably just be the same as going to the Custom User Deck in the selector and clicking on Random deck, (although I suppose it could include Preconstructed Decks or Quest decks as well).
2. No, if you pick two random colors you get two random colors. Each color that is chosen is distinct. If you want to play green and something, select Green and Random Color 1.
3. Random theme decks are structured in such a way to show off the theme. The base cards that make you think of that theme will be there, but some of the less important cards are randomly picked between a list. Think of it like a really popular Deck in a major tournament. Not everyone runs the exact same decklist, some people play with card X, some people play with card Y. Each time you play Jund, you know it's Jund. But maybe this guy couldn't afford the priciest cards, or another guy was worried about his matchup against control. That's the idea.

i'm also curious as to how random generated deck works, it seems to select within the themes, and what not, does it have a possibility for a random color deck/etc too?
