Advice for fun/balanced settings for Quest mode?

Postby oldmanmose » 23 Aug 2014, 03:03

It's awesome that Forge offers such a wide range of customization options for Quest mode, but it's kind of intimidating for the first timer.

Any advice as to what settings will give the most fun and balanced experience in your opinion? Looking over the Quest options it seems like it would be kind of a slow grind to unlock new cards and sets at default settings.

Also, when it comes to starting sets, is it generally a better idea to start with a block (like, say, Ice Age/Alliances/Coldsnap) and then gradually unlock other sets instead of just having the whole card pool from the start?

I usually edit the quest preferences so that duels give me about 200 instead of 50 gold. This way cards in the shop are way more affordable. I think the game is balanced around selling your cards, but because I'm a hoarder I'll just take some extra gold.

In my opinion starting with a single block (or even set) is much easier than using the whole cardpool. Otherwise you will meet a lot of cards that are just garbage without synergistic support (like they would have in their own block). Some cards also just clash when they are played together because of different card frames. I don't want my magic to be ugly ;D

My first Quest mode game I played with Ant on, that was a mistake :)
It takes a long time to get a decent deck, if you don't load a deck but just use the card pool.

I enjoy that, but the Ant killed me, since the hard AI is pretty hard vs, a deck you're stitching together.

I tart with a Booster Draft deck, that way you can re-draft a few times until you have a somewhat decent starting deck. I set the cards you can will to be the entire pool and I did bump up the gold you win slightly, I think I had it at 100.

Just won my first challenge and am having a lot of fun!

I always make sure to give myself enough starting credits to be able to get everything in the bazaar to start with, including the item that lets you buy back cards you lose by ante.
