I've finally added MOK'S MANALINK 2.0 VERSION to the first post. The only changes I made were to update the readme file, and adding the correct Bog Wraith pics.
It is our default installation from now on, replacing the HOTU version. It is the only version new users should use. Thanks to Bog Wraith for providing the file and the updated pics.

Which are the differences with the new cd you provided? It seems to work very well.

New to the forums... figured out the right files to install, including the ACT fix... and solved a few other hiccups.
But one last problem is causing me fits...
DECK.EXE returns with: WinMain: Couldn't create the palette.
[Program crashes on startup after giving that message]
I did some googling, and found other people have reported the same problem in the past. I have the Manalink 2.0 patch installed, and installed 201 to no help. I read that it may be a random process causing the errors, and that killing it might help... but I killed every last thing, to no avail. Also read something about mouse drivers... I'm using my laptop Synaptic touchpad... tried to see if there was anything I could do to figure that out... no luck.
Any ideas?
Anyways, mighty grateful for all the AMAZING work you guys are doing!!!

Hello,
First of all, congratulations for an extraordinary work.
I would like to get some help. When I try to install the Spells of the Ancients expansion, I get an error window which says the original CD ROM hasn't been found. I have tried to install it both with Daemon Tools and with a burnt CD.
Do you have any idea of what I can do?
I still have a further question: Do I have to use Act Fix patch just for playind Shandalar, or should I use it in case I just want to play the Duel?
Thanks!!

JeopardyTempest, try setting your desktop to 16 bit color.
All you guys try Mok's version 2.0 please, we're not equipped to support original installations. I think most of the guys here don't use original installations either.
The ACT fix should not be necessary if you use the Manalink 2.01 patch.
If you want to run the original game properly, you really need to do it in Windows 95 or 98. NTM, so many people are using Vista nowadays, and I still have XP.

Tried 16 bit, to no avail. And sorry if I didn't explain it right, but I am using MOK's Manalink.
All I did:
- Download "Original Game" Planeswalkers
- Download Daemon Tools
- Mount cue
- Install
- Downloaded MOKs Manalink
- UnRARed it ontop of/into Magic directory
- Downloaded Microsoft's Compatability Toolkit
- Installed Smiling Spectre's Act Fix (using the instructions link given by Bog Wraith)
That should be the right instructions and steps, as far as I can tell. (and hint hint to other's that are doing this... you basically need to do each of those in that order... it took a little while to piece together each step).
I tried messing with compatibility, killing processes, disabling services from starting up using msconfig, changing screen resolution and color quality... and downloaded manalink 2.01 update, unrared as with MOK, and tried stuff again. No luck
Hopefully I can figure this out, I used to love playing this game in the 90s, though it was at total snail's pace. I really look forward to it working at a worthy pace. I will probably try the 98 or 95 emulation if nothing else comes through... but obviously it's a bit of work and I'm trying to get it working as easy as possible.
You guys are awesome and thanks for every bit of your time you've given to us in this project!

Mok's is a standalone, you don't need to install it on top of anything. So the steps are:
Download MOKs Manalink
UnRAR it
Play
Otherwise, you can try installing the version here: viewtopic.php?p=16069#p16069
Neither of these need a patch, or the ACT fix, or anything else.
If you still have trouble, the quickest solution is to bite the bullet and run it virtually.

Hello all, I've been lurking for a few days now. hahah. Any ways I wanted to post some things about Moks.
I have the hotu rip installed on an xp machine with the latest manalink and card art, along with the act fix. it works fine, except for the food eating up all my gold glitch.
I have the full DotP installed on another xp machine with the same extras and it is working exactly the same.
but I am all for simplicity so decided to try out Moks build this morning. here is what I have found so far:
the ante window does not show. the coin flip does not show, when I win the flip I can't see the option to draw or play first. on my larger screen the duel is in a small box in the corner, the rest of the screen is black. just wanted to share those bugs. I'm glad I found this place!

any1 who is willing to combine all existing usable links of MTG: MTG SOTA, MTG DOTP, Manalink 201, etc. into ONE MTG ULTIMATE game files. So that we could play using all the resources available, like the number of cards, additional decks if any, etc.
just a suggestion from a non-tecky guy

I just downloaded and installed:
MOK'S MANALINK 2.0 VERSION
We recommend that most people, and especially new users, start with the original Mok's version 2.0. It is pre-patched and ready to go. All the other files here are for archival purposes. Unless you're an expert at using old systems and have some specific reason for doing otherwise, USE THIS VERSION:
So I could play Shandalar. The game starts fine, but after picking my color, I get the error:
Assertion error
file -> D:\NewMagic\sources\sidlib\text.c,Line ->131 File fonts.cv could not be opened: EXITING
Now, I am running a Vistas machine (no comments
) so is there something else I need to download or am I out of luck?
Thanks!

I don't know, but if we keep getting trouble reports with that version then we'll have to go to something else. It worked for me and Bog Wraith so that's why we tried to make it the standard.

Notice that most of these reported problems are with Vista!
Hopefully folks will have better luck with Windows 7 when it comes out.
For me, when I use a Windows box, I stick with XP!
