I downloaded Mok's version and it seems to work for the most part. Some problems I'm having (on Xp and Windows 7):
* Some text boxes are completely empty, others only have one line of text (like at the start of a fight or when exploring an area like a graveyard, temple, ...)
* Clicking on the buy food & drinks button actually buys it 4 or 5 times in rapid succession.
* Some cards appear to be mislinked in some way... I don't have a mountain in my deck, yet sometimes it shows up. I also have had a few occassions where I receive a specific card as a reward, but when I check my deck editor, I actually received another card, usually a dual color one. And sometimes, I don't get a card at all.
* Finally, I seem to be unable to select a damage card with Reverse Damage (actually, the damage card doesn't show anywhere).
Still, it's great to be able to play the game I loved so much in the past again
Thanks for the hard work guys, keep it up!^^

Try the "Fix" linked on the 1st page of this thread.Ragura wrote:* Some text boxes are completely empty, others only have one line of text (like at the start of a fight or when exploring an area like a graveyard, temple, ...)
A known issue with the speed of newer machines... try to keep your click very fast.Ragura wrote:* Clicking on the buy food & drinks button actually buys it 4 or 5 times in rapid succession.
Make sure you have at least 40 cards in your deck (i.e. didn't lose one due to ante during a previous dual) The game will automatically insert random lands to make up any differences less than 40.Ragura wrote:* Some cards appear to be mislinked in some way... ...as far as I know, there are no dual color cards available in Shandalar.Ragura wrote:I also have had a few occassions where I receive a specific card as a reward, but when I check my deck editor, I actually received another card, usually a dual color one. And sometimes, I don't get a card at all.
The damage card should appear directly above (under) the card being damaged during damage resolution, and the game will only ask for input if you have any effects available during damage resolution. If the effect damages you, the damage card should appear above your player image that appears on the right side of the screen while you are being damaged.Ragura wrote:* Finally, I seem to be unable to select a damage card with Reverse Damage (actually, the damage card doesn't show anywhere).
Hope any of that helps.

I'm trying to write a manalink users guide, so pardon me for asking questions that have already been answered, probably.
I installed this:
MOK'S MANALINK 2.0 VERSION
We recommend that most people, and especially new users, start with the original Mok's version 2.0. It is pre-patched and ready to go. All the other files here are for archival purposes. Unless you're an expert at using old systems and have some specific reason for doing otherwise, USE THIS VERSION:
Microprose MTG Mok's Manalink 2.0 Version.part1.rar (92.77 MB)
http://www.mediafire.com/?dnguzumjmnm -or-
http://rapidshare.com/files/246800006/M ... .part1.rar
Microprose MTG Mok's Manalink 2.0 Version.part2.rar (91.76 MB)
http://www.mediafire.com/?jzmoel4hjam -or-
http://rapidshare.com/files/246813917/M ... .part2.rar
Magic.exe works fine, but shandalar dies with Dave's Extra Cool error. What is the fix for this?
Edit: I fixed this problem. The trick was to actually turn compatibility OFF (I'm using XP pro)

jatill, pls keep in mind that in order to play manalink over the LAN / internet you need to install the old official manalink 1.32 file! without it you can't use this great feature..

Yes, I noticed. I'm stealing a lot of info from that, and adding more. In particular, I'm documenting all the new features that you get with the current builds. The one I'm writing will be on the wiki. I definitely don't want to downplay the great work you've done. I just want to get all the relevant info in 1 place, hopefully sticked way above every other sticky.sture wrote:i dunno if you already noticed it, but i already wrote onejatill wrote:I'm trying to write a manalink users guide,

I don't know enough to completely fill out the 'how to play from a LAN' section, so maybe you can update that part when I get it out there. In particular, what extra steps do you need to do other than just unzipping files and rebooting.

here's the wiki entry. Please update the General FAQ for LAN play, or add its own section. Thanks.

Re: Download Original MicroProse & ManaLink Game Files!

So, I downloaded and installed the recommended files, the manalink2.0 with everything all ready. First, a question: the two files seem to contain all the same stuff. One's called part one, one's called part two... Help?
Two, I got the game running. It has a font error, won't let me put in a name for a new game, but it starts. A few text boxes have no text, but the major ones do. But first problem was, some cards have the wrong art. Saw a Circle of Protection with Skyknight Legionnaire for art, Fortified Area with Time Warp's art... the hell? Two, and more problematic--the game crashes when I take damage. That's... kinda hard to deal with. I also noticed a few newer cards in the game, I knew you guys added some more to the database but didn't think they were supposed to show up in Shandalar.
So, A) what's up with the two 2.0 files? B) how is it mostly working, only not? C) how can I fix this?
Edit: Running XP Pro.
Edit2: Nevermind the two files thing, I forgot how Rar's work. But new information--it just crashed when I got to target any player (Triskelion counter), and it tried to reveal my 'face'. That was comprised of an ugly orangey swirl, then the same crash.
Edit3: Okay, I can see my 'portrait' from the status screen, so that's not the issue. Maybe it's from that initial 'what's your name' screen, where I just get that big red mess and can't change my name? Also, I've seen three separate arts on Serra Angel... not sure if this is a problem, only that it's different.
Edit4: yeah, it's definitely something to do with the face. Just flipping over to look at it during a game crashes it, and when i take damage the damage card wants to have my face on it. Seems like there should be a simple fix to this...
Edit5: Every time I try to start a new game, this is the error I get:
File-> D:\NewMagic\sources\sidlib\text.c, Line-> 131
File fonts.cv could not be opened: EXITING
And while I can see my corrupted Face on the status screen, I can't see it in games, where it puts your name over it; I'm really getting convinced it's the font. I've had a friend send me a version of the file he knows works, and I've tried putting copies of it in every folder, but no difference yet. D, by the way, is my CD drive, obviously I don't have the CD anymore... is one of the files borked to look in the wrong place?
Edit 6: Okay, fixed the game-crashing issue, not the fonts thing but doesn't seem to be an actual problem. When starting a new game, it defaulted the name to some bizarre long string of characters that didn't SEEM to be deletable; the length of that name was what was crashing things. Just had to lean on the delete key for 15 seconds when starting a game, it turns out.

Try winrar or 7zip instead of winzip.
