Re: Community Wad

hm. i'm trying to understand the purpose of this wad...
is it just to add community created cards to your cardpool which aren't present in the several mods available?
because i already have 30000-40000 cards usable with the deck creator after downloading and tweaking all available mods out there (some mods seem to let dotp crash when used simultaneously, i had to play around quite a bit to get the most wanted mods work together). So this wad would add even more cards to that pool or is it supposed to be used without any other mods?
And another question: this doesn't cancel out the online play problem, when the wads of 2 players doesn't match or is it supposed to solve that problem to play over, for example, a designated tunngle channel with ppl that have this also installed (which would be awesome, but as i wrote, i'm not quite sure what exactly the community wad is supposed to do ^^).
Sorry if i miss something obvious here...
i myself made a 7z file with exactly my configuration to pass to other players to successfully create online matches (there are 250+ decks integrated and the file is roughly 4 gb big, because i used no compression to pack/repack and extract faster).
BUT i'm unable to find a way to get this distributed... if i use this forum, the majority of players would probably want to stick to their configuration, a workaround would be to add community custom decks to the pool, but imho this would take a great deal of time, work and regularly maintenance. Therefore i tried to convince single people who i knew used to play mtg to pay the 10eur for the game and use my file to play with me, which at this time failed too.
Any suggestions for such a project would be appreciated, because i really get tired to play against AI players who get a control/combo deck which the game wasn't built to understand/play and therefore just play lands :/

You're sort of on the right track for the CW is for, but didn't quite hit the mark. See, many wads that others have made have many of the same cards, so when you say you have 30000-40000 cards, that's with a LOT of duplicates. Really, you have less than (or just barely more than) 8200. I know this, because with the CW installed by itself, that's how many cards I have and the CW has almost every other mod's cards ( a few authors never replied to my request for permission to incorporate their mods), all in one file. So, one major thing the CW does is gives you access to all the cards that have been made so you can make custom decks without giving you 4-5 copies of most cards.
Second, when you have 4-5 copies of a card, you aren't necessarily sure whose version to use, and it's a hassle if you find a bug to tell which mod it came from, and thus who to tell about it. With this, the card itself says who made it, and you can always post it either in that person's thread (just make sure to say you were using the CW) or here about errors. So, the CW also means fewer errors and an easier time reporting any you find.
Third, it does make multiplayer easier, but it does NOT make it as easy as I'd like. Your 4GB file could be reduced to just a couple of megabytes. MUCH smaller and more likely other would be willing to join you. See, you wouldn't need to include the CW itself. You'd only need to include your decks. Because decks are so small, it would only take a couple of seconds to download your list. However, you're most likely to get takers if you're also downloading their list. Since they'd have your chosen ID, they'd be easy to separate and delete once you're done playing.
Last, this automatically updates itself. And there's a very simple way to make your end also automatically update. This means it becomes hassle-free to make sure you're always playing with the newest cards available and the most recent bug fixes without having to look and see which files were updated because you can get them automatically. The only thing I'd want to change here is a way to easily see which cards were added or changed. I might focus on this over the next few days...
As for the community decks, that's been discussed. There have been a couple of ideas, but nothing has been done with those ideas, yet. I only saw one or two people interested (I don't play multiplayer, but I'm interested in making it work for others, so I could say 2 or 3 people), so I never put much energy toward it; I focused elsewhere. The problem with having a community deck wad is that you wouldn't be able to sort through them very easily to find the deck you want. Even with just the decks sumomole made, he very clearly states you could (read: should) only keep the decks you like and delete the others because there are just so many. With multiple people each submitting their own decks that they'd want to play with, there'd be a huge number. It wouldn't actually require much maintenance. The system I have set up automates the entire process. I just let it run in the background on my computer, and it takes care of everything else. So, you'd make a deck, you drop it in a folder, and the next day (sorry, but any more often is overkill), that deck would be int he CW Deck wad. However, just because it would be easy to add decks and to maintain doesn't mean it would be a good solution.
Another solution I thought of would be a much better one, but since there weren't many people interested, I never got around to making it a priority. Basically, a small file would run on your computer and it would tell you a number. You give that number to the person you want to play with, and you type in the number they give you. When it says it's done, you load up the game and go find them and play. It would mean exiting the game before you play with a new player, but it would allow anyone to use any of their decks without the massive number of decks to sort through in-game. If we could filter decks, this wouldn't be an issue. Unfortunately, that's not a possibility.
TL;DR: The CW gives you all the card we have available without overlap, with fewer bugs, with easier bug reporting, and with faster, automatic updating. So, yes, it should be used on its own with no other mods installed (except for the Manual Mana exception mentioned in the first post). HOWEVER, you'll still need to have any deck mods you want to use. You can convert those decks to use the community wad, though, so you can play without the mod they originally came from. Here's the link to the post where I explain that.
General update: With that, I've got a half-assed priority list. Let's see if I can actually focus
EDIT: Update - The multiplayer utility is coming along REALLY nicely. I've got a good method now and it SEEMS to be working entirely. I'm headed to a friend's house now and I'll test it while I'm there.

- Find which cards were made by the authors I never got permission from and remake those cards. (I haven't already done this because I was originally hoping they'd eventually respond, but that's unlikely at this point.)
Incorporate Neo's planeswalker frames.Attempt to get the multiplayer utility working.Implement a "new cards" and "updated cards" feature.
EDIT: Update - The multiplayer utility is coming along REALLY nicely. I've got a good method now and it SEEMS to be working entirely. I'm headed to a friend's house now and I'll test it while I'm there.

There is now a multiplayer syncing tool to make playing in multiplayer a lot easier. You just drop it somewhere, make sure you've got the Google Drive folder in your Google Drive, copy all your decks into a certain folder, and give someone your ID. It's got a nice set of (possibly broken... they work for me
) automated path finding for the folders it needs to work with. Someone go give it a try. I'll make a new thread for the decks available where you can post the card list of any decks you put in there.

Very much appreciated kind sir
I will definitely try this out in the next few days. Someone send me a pm if they want to participate.
I will have to download and test the CW file first though, got only 3 mbit here.

If it happens like that again, you might try the direct download link and a download manager. Then, you should be able to resume the download after a failure.lilqi wrote:omg download failed after 1.9 GB, trying again now X_x
Resuming a download in Chrome is a pain. But in Firefox it's a lot easier. Sorry for the file being so large. I considered splitting it up, and I still might do that, but the sheer convenience of only having two files simplifies SO MUCH CRAP. The good news is that once you get it downloaded once, you'll only need to update it when you have the patience and time. Not updating that will only mean a few pictures will be lower quality than they should be or might be missing. But the vast majority will work.
The bad news is that despite using MTGImage.com for all of the images, which in turn gets its images from here, the CCGHQ Pictures team, the images are often kind of fuzzy

can i request to know if we can incorporate the creator of the wad "Data_Dlc_972" along with the different versions of 2010, 2012, and the 2 or 3 versions of 2013? i believe they are all made by grovilexceleby. and the creator of "data_dlc_6666(6?maybe a fifth or sixth one?)
also id like to request an update so that we have all the cards from VXP. im running a little windows 8 asus. I have 13,000 cards after sacrificing S62. its currently 1:00AM so please be gentle if you decide to be benevolent and consider these.
These requests are made for people like me who have computers with low memory output. I can provide rogue WADS and we can add different art or something man, but seriously, my computer cant handle it. I love the community WAD. I had an Amazing phyrexia deck but i couldnt add geth(card source: Data_dlc_972). I love you.

Unfortunately, Grovyle is one of four people who never responded to my request. The message system says he hasn't even seen the message. So, while I imagine he probably wouldn't care (no one else had any issue with it), I don't know that for sure, so I regret to say no (if this seems weird, just consider that I'm from the Skyrim modding community, mainly, so it's pretty heavily instilled). Not unless he comes back and says it's okay. However, if you request any specific cards you want to use in the Formal Request Thread, I'll happily create and add those. As for the art, that's actually not something tied to a specific person, so if you want to add the art from their wads, I wouldn't feel bad about that. Just rename it to CW + MultiverseID and drop it in the illustrations folder. Done.
GrovyleXShinyCelebi, BloodReyvyn, and Scion of Darkness never received the requests. kevlahnota didn't respond.
The 666 prefix is reserved for braquio. I've never asked his permission. I only noticed last week he had many cards; for some reason, I was under the impression his mod didn't contain many cards and instead contained mostly decks with others' cards. I was already planning to ask his permission.
972 is BloodReyvyn, and as I said, he never got the message. I actually have a list of cards he made that aren't currently in the CW, about 350 total, which I'm planning to begin recoding soon. Then I'll move on to Grovyle's.
As for Geth, Lord of the Vault I'll make him up tomorrow. It's 1:30 A.M. here now (we're in the same time-zome...), so I'm off to bed. The good news is that the most prolific all responded positively. Unfortunately, those two have a LOT of cards that would have been nice not to have to remake.
Also, I didn't quite understand what you meant here: "I can provide rogue WADS and we can add different art or something man, but seriously, my computer cant handle it." It might very well be just 'cause I'm tired, though.
ALSO: General update - I've modified the multiplayer utility. It now works when launched from a shortcut, has a better error handling (including a fix for the fact it would tell you it succeeded even if it JUST told you it failed...), you now change your ID under New instead of Import, when launched, it will automatically move any unknown wads to a temp directory and replace them when it's closed.

Hm, i tried to download 3 times now, 2 x normal download and 1 time with a download manager. Connection always breaks up after 1.97 GB without option to resume. IDK what to do now.
edit: can't i just move it into my google drive account and sync it from there like how its done in dropbox?

Yes. That's how I assumed you'd done it first. Try one or two more times. If it still doesn't work, I'll break it up with 7ZIP into smaller pieces for you to download.

What of the matter of updating for VolrathXP? my tiny ASUS runs out of memory when i hover over a planeswalker. So for the sake of low memory computers (though i have 17,000 cards after trimming the WADS) i am incredibly afraid that if i remove TFM's mod, i will be without a few cards. and with VXP i know for a fact that there will be a large number that i use a lot. I love this community WAD.
If you want to make a little boy happy though you'd talk about coding some of the cards with phyrexian man... OR Make a Voice of Hunger even if it doesnt work properly...

All of thefiremind's cards should be included. I've discovered (just within the last couple of hours) a few that were missing, but I already fixed that. I'm going through Volrathxp's now. Most of her cards were included, and I'm in the process right now (literally, right now) of making sure the rest are done.
So, even if you removed their wads right now, you wouldn't be missing many cards. thefiremind and volrathxp were among those that granted me permission to include all of their cards.
EDIT: Just finished converting all of thefiremind's, sumomole's and volrathxp's decks. The Deck Converter warns me about missing cards, so I coded all of those as I went since I discovered a few that weren't integrated previously. The decks are now all available in the Community Decks folder.
