How can I unable/reduct sounds when playing Shandalar?
by carletto1979 » 21 Jul 2009, 18:49
I would like to listen music with winamp when I play Shandalar, but there isn't a "volume" options or a "toggle sound" checkbox.
So I have to play the game without my music, or play with my music confused with Shandalar sounds.
Can you help me?
Thank you very much guys, you did a great work! Too bad Microprose closed
Thanks!

Shandalar's sounds are extremely loud, and I typically play with my speakers off because of this. However, to play music, what I have done is this:
Turn your physical speaker's volume very low, but keep them on. Then turn winamp's volume very high. You'll have to tune this based on your setup. I'll have the speaker volume dial fairly low, and then winamp volume at like 90%. This way, all sounds will be quiet due to the physical speaker, but the winamp music will be amplified due to software.
That's actually what I did during Duel mode, but it should be exactly the same thing. I haven't played shandalar in months, actually, but it shouldn't make any difference.

Is there a way to play the game with no sounds at all?

Yeah, I just deleted the Sounds and Duel Sounds folders from my Magic directory...

Thanks Huggybaby, I'll try this!
Somacat, that didn't worked for me. If I delete the Sound folder, the game stop when I start a duel.

Hmm. maybe you could try getting some sound files with nothing in them, rename them to shandalar's sounds, and replace the original files with those? No idea if that will work, I'm just fishing for ideas.

I prefer to have the dual sounds but do agree that they are too loud. So, my fix was to run all of the wav files through the batch editor in WaveLab6 and lower the gain by 5.4.
This basically just made all of the dual sounds about half volume, which is where they belong.
