Got 7zip (FREE) works like a charm, thanks.Huggybaby wrote:Try winrar or 7zip instead of winzip.
Also have a fix for the gold eating food in Shandalar, mouse over "buy food" in the towns but dont click mouse, hit enter. lets you buy one at a time. Again, Thanks a whole lot guys, I love this game.Bought MTG, Dules when it came out in '98 (played the card game for years prior to that) Lost the CD-Rom somewhere in a move or something, then found the Mok files and put on my vista machine (ran but could not play Shandalar, crashed at title screen)then I decided vista slowed my machine too much so f disked and installed WinXP home. and ran into this problem. again thaks Mok and everyone who breathed new life into this awesome classic game

Hi! I stumbled across this forum and I had forgotten how awesome this game was. I tried installing the Moks Manalink 2.0 (the one it says for new users) Everything seems to be ok but I cannot see any fonts on he cards. I tried installing this fix here and it installed but I am getting the same error:
viewtopic.php?p=14833#p14833
I also tried downloading the Fonts pack and replacing the files in the Magic directory but that didnt work either.
If anyone can steer me in the right direction, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.
I forgot to say Im on XP SP2
Solved: I am an idiot. In a haste to play the game, I forgot to restart. Once I restarted all of the text is there now.

RUNNING NATIVELY
This game is a 16 bit application released for Windows 95. It runs in Windows 98, but not in Windows XP. Not even in compatibility mode, which is very frustrating. So, if you want to see the tutorial videos the way they are supposed to be, you need to play the game in Win 95 or 98. Setting up your machine to dual boot is a lot of trouble, but there is an easier way, and that is to use a Virtual Machine.
OPTION 1
CirothUngol has preinstalled the game into a package so that you can play it using the free VMware Player. First, get the player and install it.
VMware-player-2.5.2-156735.rar (43.91 MB)

Then download the package and extract it.

Hi. I am new to this forum. I never played this game on Pc..just few times with a friend with use of real cards. Now when I found that there is Pc version of this game I want to try it so I came to this forum.. English is not my native language an I have many troubles with understanding sense of some longer posts..there is so many different options, patches, upgrades I saw some new card graphics etc. I am really confused and want to ask for your help.. with files I need to download and in what order install them?
I want to have possibility of playing it singleplayer and with a friends through internet.
All cards including those from game addons and updates (I saw something like that + new card graphics somewhere on this forum...)
I and my friends are using Windows Xp
Also I wanted to install this SMILING SPECTRE'S ACT FIX.. if it could enchant graphics a little (I am most interested in possibility of reading card descriptions to the end.. because I saw that sometimes text just doesn't fit card image and it is unable to read it all)
I just want to have all possible features/cards available. Please, just write me correct order of downloading/installing files with links to those files and eventually some instructions how to install..

Hi all. Great to see this site and forum. I just had to wipe my PC and reinstall, and I guess I'm missing something important.
I have WinXP. I installed DotP and Manalink 1.3.2, then did the MS administrator compatibility trick. But I am able to do just about everything except I crash every time I try and move a card from the library to a deck in deckbuilder. Is it the video setting? My widescreen monitor resolution getting in the way? That sounds way too easy...
In other news, it is so cool that you guys have been updating to new cards. Initially, I'd be thrilled just to get it working again with 4th Edition, but is it worth the trouble to move forward with your current version? I'm not in this to be a beta tester, just a player from back in the day. What's involved for me? Just the 2.0 (45MB) install?
Thanks for your help,
Prof

EDIT: Woohoo! I tried again, this time following your exact instruction as per the wiki install guide, putting the files in the program dir in C:/magic, and SHAZAM it works!
EDIT 2: The problem seems to occur when I rename/remove the sound and duelsound directories. If anyone knows a way of muting the sound short of editing every .wav individually, it would be much appreciated
Thank you thank you thank yous. May saints and buddhas grovel at you feet !!!
Hi, you guys are the best!
Installed Mog's Manalink, WOW! New art! Multicolor cards! Never had that in the HOTU version. Made me go bananas.
Sadly in the Shandalar world map, everytime during an encounter I select "duel this creature", the game hangs. The weird thing is that when I go into a dungeon or castle and duel the creatures there (and i don't have the duel/pay tribute options), the duel starts up just fine.
Also, when starting up Shandalar, the game seems to skip the facemaker and puts up a string of strange characters for a name. It also gives me this error just prior to the name screen:
Assertion Error. File-> D:NewMagic\sources\sidlib\text.c Line-> 131 fonts.cv could not be opened: EXITING
I'm not really bothered by that since I can just press enter and jump right into game anyway. The thing that ruining the fun is the "duel" error. The HOTU version still works fine by the way.
Any ideas how I could fix this? I swear I'll build a temple complex of a square miles in your honor.

I downloaded and installed the latest 7 part .rar setup and I am having issues. (http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=038e ... 25ea99ae76)
I cannot see any of the words over the icons for settings, the text is simply not there. When I click on the "Magic Launcher" I cannot see the text over the 4 options. When I go into a village, the screen is all messed up and again, I cannot see any of the images or text. Please advise. Thank you very much!

Hi, I just found out about this game and googling around led me to this thread. I was looking at the install guide, and in this part:

it links to savefile.com, which is apparently down until Sept 1, with no word on whether files that were previously uploaded will still be accessible. Can someone please rehost it on Megaupload or the like? ThanksFor the new cards and features, download and unpack http://www.savefile.com/files/1997761 (make sure to extract the folder with Magic.exe in it, and not the stuff before that)

I have just downloaded and installed MOK'S MANALINK 2.0 VERSION but I am experiencing problems when running the game. After choosing my difficulty level and card deck colour the game crashes when moving onto the next screen.
Could somebody please tell where I am going wrong.
Many thanks
