What's the easiest way to test Challenges via an actual Quest? I have some new Challenge features I'm considering introducing, but I need to make sure everything is loading properly.
Edit: Nm. I'll just hack my challenges list to force it into the right stuff

Hi all.
Just a quick comment about one of the quests.
Now I'm having fun with all of them, they're hard but they're beatable with the right kind of deck and a bit of luck.
Winning does feel like an accomplishment
I have to consider Repressed Magic an exception though. It is just very frustrating and unfair to the player.
There's no generic archetype that can beat it (as good and efficient as it may be). Aggro, control, combo... I've tried a pure red with instants only (since those don't get the cost increase) but the AI has counters for that too; I'd need to at least set up a Pyromancer Ascension in order to have a chance but that isn't an instant, and I can't get it out fast enough. On top of it all, the AI has land removal
In my estimate at least, the only way to have a reasonable chance is to build a very specific deck, tailored to deal with this quest once you've been beaten so many times as to get some idea on how to do it. Not that I've figured out what it might be.
Sorry for the little rant
Thanks to all the people involved for the hard work on this program, and the quest feature especially.
It's amazing.

I've tried the Repressed Magic challenge several times since my comment, even with a specifically built deck.
No sorceries, only instants, summoning traps, harrow, naturalize, only basic lands... I've tried to consider everything this guys has ready for you.
But it's too much, I can't even the field and start my counterattack build-up fast enough before he destroys me.
And he still has counters, most of the time I can't even remove a small portion of his pre-built defenses.
I think I'm giving up on this challenge...
I'd be honestly curious to hear how people deal with this.

I'd look for: Instants, enchantments and artifact removal. Especially board wipes that come in those types. Cards like Pernicious Deed, Nevinyrral\'s Disk, Powder Keg. Also cards that can cheat cards into play. AEther Vial, Sneak Attack, Oath of Druids. How much life are you starting with? Are you using any pets? He's tough, but definitely beatable.mastroego wrote:I've tried the Repressed Magic challenge several times since my comment, even with a specifically built deck.

Even a Sligh deck can win if you blow up the Feroz's Ban on the first turn with like a Crush, and then run your normal super-aggro plays.
Edit: Wrong card for turn 1 artifact removal.

For this kind of quests I usually try to have a Serenity and an Enlightened Tutor in my sideboard, hope they'll be enough to deal with this challenge too.

Okay, here's a funny challenge idea. All I need are more flavorful cards.
Human: Blessed Spirits, Cruel Sadist, Cloistered Youth, Blood Bairn
AI: Forlorn Pseudamma (or Kindercatch)

Sloth, maybe including things like Sunblast Angel as well?
Re: Special quests

Well in a normal deck Sunblast Angel would be a nice additions, but i like my quests to feel like puzzles that you need to think about and prepare for. That's why the AI should get a consistent deck that plays predictable and doesn't need blowout cards like Sunblast Angel.Nordos wrote:Sloth, maybe including things like Sunblast Angel as well?

To prevent the player from devastating the AI by destroying the Omnisciences turn 1 (i.e. Back to Nature.dck), i would add some instants or cards with flash like:
Spelljack
Desertion
Bogardan Hellkite
Pearl Lake Ancient
Summoning Trap

Done, also changed some cards and the manabase. I would've added Leyline of Anticipation but that would be too broken.Sloth wrote:That's a nice challenge.
