Is there a way to choose what card sets I want in Shandalar?
by FadedSentry » 11 Nov 2015, 02:06
So, I went to this link
viewtopic.php?f=76&t=17183
And followed all the directions and had several problems along the way. I finally got everything working but all card art is missing in Shandalar but works in deck builder.
So....
1. How do I fix that?
2. Is there a way I can choose what sets are accessible? I'm more of a fan of the older magic sets and don't really want anything after say.....7th edition I guess.

2. You can edit the shandalar.ini file and set any sets to be disabled there, afaik.
But another thing you might try is simply changing the frames on all cards to old ones - worked wonders for me in terms of enjoying post 7th cards more. You can do that in Program\DuelArt\Duel.dat, search "classic frames" and in that block replace Modern.dat (and everything else XXXXXX.dat) with Classic.dat.
Hell, if anything gets WotC attention to this project it will be the ability to do that. There's a lot of folks who'd play Shandalar just so that they can have old frames on everything.

Ok so, apparently more problems have popped up. I searched in every single folder and sub folder and I do not have a Shandalar.ini file. Out of curiosity I decided to mess around with Shandalar for a bit and sure enough, the new cards aren't even in it. It does have all the cards from the original game as well as Spells of the Ancients but nothing else. So, I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.
Also, as a side problem just in case anyone knows, whenever I happen upon one of those places where you can buy cards for amulets and it lists all the cards of each color, for some of the colors there is too many and they go off screen so I can't click them. Anyone know how to fix that?

Sounds like you just haven't installed stuff right, or even at all. Which steps have you followed, exactly? The Cirith Ungol post in the thread you posted is what you want to follow, i think, and get stuff out of his dropbox or google drive, and links to all the arts are there too.
Not sure if it's up to date, though.

To be honest...there's so many how to install things on this forum that I can't even remember what all I downloaded and didn't download.
I remember that I got the main game from a torrent here which was Duels of the Planeswalkers 2010. Then I installed Manalink, and the card art folders. I don't even know if I did everything right or if that's all I was suppose to get.
It's not very easy to figure out what to do, even with the how to topics. =(

Ok, I found it very simple when I was doing it (but also being confused at first):
I think it's like this:
Download this:
https://drive.google.com/folderview?id= ... UFVcjF1T00
both of them, unpack the manalink into a folder. Then the shandalar thing into the program folder (the one where the exe is).
and get the card arts here:
If that doesn't work then you might need to download the old original game first, and do a step I've missed here, but I'm not sure that's actually necessary.
---
There are several sources for decks, but let's see if this works first, right?

And that's that, I think. There might be a latest version of the shandalar changes in the "updates" thread.CirothUngol wrote:CardArtManalink_2012.zip

Extract the first archive to create the folder \CardArtManalink\. Extract the other two archives and place all of the image files into \CardArtManalink\, then move the folder into \Manalink3\Program\. Complete folder should contain 14076 image files.
If that doesn't work then you might need to download the old original game first, and do a step I've missed here, but I'm not sure that's actually necessary.

Ok, I'm in the process of Downloading all those.
The only question is, you said to put the Shandalar in the folder where the exe was, but which version of the game am I suppose to install? The old one, the 2010 one, the 2012 one? Or is there another one all together I'm suppose to get. x_X

I think that what you're downloading means you don't have to install anything. I made a mistake and just unzipped that thing in a completely separate folder, put everything else in it and it worked... somehow. If it doesn't I'll know why it didn't and we can fix that easily I think and then we KNOW how it works and can have an actual easy to find/understand guide.
But if that doesn't work, I'll give you the link to something else*, you don't mind us trying this out for science? If it's this simple, everyone who asks this question later will benefit
*you will need all this other stuff, even if it doesn't work on it's own, anyway.

So, I set up everything like you said, and went to load magic.exe, and it hit an error that it was unable to load like....2000 card art files. I checked the Card Art folder and there's only 2 files in there.....so, are they missing or something?

Did you download the three zip files? The arts should be in them.

I did yes, You had me put all the files in the CardArtManalink folder, but the game is looking for files in the CartArt folder, which only has 2 files in it.

Ok, then do you have a file called Manalink_Launcher.cmd anywhere? If yes, run it and try again. It should be in Manalink3 folder.

If it doesn't work, then do this:
https://drive.google.com/folderview?id= ... UFVcjF1T00
That's the original game, so what you're missing might be in the original files and not included in all the other stuff. These should be the final original files. Why it works for me without that - I've no clue.
When you get these, install these in a separate folder (or just unzip them?), then do everything else one by one:
First the Manalink thing, then hit the Manalink_Launcher.cmd, then the Shandalar zip, then the arts, minding the folder structure (I didn't, so it ended up being installed without the OG files for me somehow).
If that doesn't work then I don't know how I managed to install it XD

Ok, I ran that and now the game plays just fine, and all the cards are now implemented in Shandalar.
The only thing however, is that I now get an error in each of the modes when I try to play. I can just bypass the error and keep playing, but I'd rather fix it if able. The error is
Unknown watermark "green" in line #2 of watermark.csv [91;green]
Also, a few last little things if I may...
1. I can't find where in the ini file you are able to choose which sets are in and which aren't.
2. Are the AI opponents going to use any of the new cards?

1. Starting from [Sets], towards the bottom of Shandalar.ini
2. Only if they happen to play them : by cloning your deck (a special capacity of some opponents), stealing your cards by "mind control" spells like Mind Control or Power Struggle (n=°9) (As an aside, could Astral cards be added to this wonderful highlighting/mouse hover tool?), or if you change their decks by other decks that happen to include the new cards.
Note that it doesn't mean the AI will know *how* to play those cards.
