Interested in developing for Forge

Postby DUDEMIKE » 16 Mar 2016, 01:49

DUDEMIKE here. I'm a novice Java developer who has played MTG on and off for several years. I'm interested in contributing to MTG Forge as a Java developer, but I'm not sure what the etiquette is for working on projects like this or how things are currently organized. Can I just pull the latest version and start pushing my changes?

I've started reading the "How to Get Started Developing Forge" guide but I'm still unsure on what my first step should be.

Thanks!

Hey Dudemike,

Yep, you should be able to just Checkout the repository (in a read-only fashion) since your credentials won't work for commits. Generally we ask new interested developers to find a few small things they are interested in fixing and post patches for them. Once they get a feel for how things work around here and get comfortable with our large (and aged) codebase, we open up commit rights for them. Feel free to make a post in the Developer's Corner with some thoughts about what you want to work on, and some of us can give you some pointers about where to start looking.
